Everette, Washington Soldier Dies in Iraq

The Department of Defense says the Soldier's death is under investigation.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - A U.S. soldier from Everette, Washington was killed in Iraq over the weekend. Specialist Vincent G. Kamka, 23, died October 4th in Bayji, Iraq.

Vincent Kamka was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The likelihood of their challenge to SB2, the anti-discrimination law, making it to the ballot is even slimmer since they submitted hundreds fewer signatures for that challenge.

No Sign Yet of Plane Missing in Washington

"We have two single engine aircraft flying grid searches, and two helicopters. In addition we have a number of ground crews searching as well." - Nisha Marvel, Washington Transportation Dept.

(SEATTLE, Wash.) - A small airplane has reportedly crashed on a flight between Idaho to Shelton, Washington. 10 people were aboard the Cessna 208 Caravan that left the ground in Boise at 7:00 PM.

Authorities became alarmed when the plane failed to return to Shelton as a flight plan indicated. Nisha Marvel, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation, told Salem-News.com that a number of resources have been deployed to help located the missing aircraft.

Driver in September Crash Dies from Injuries

Oregon State Police troopers from the McMinnville Area Command are continuing the investigation with the assistance of an OSP collision re-constructionist.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The driver of a van that collided with the back of a farm tractor September 20th on Highway 221 near Dayton reportedly died Sunday from her injuries. The farm tractor's operator received non-life threatening injuries at the time.

3 Charged in Killing of University of Memphis Football Player

Police said all three men are charged with murder in the perpetration of attempted aggravated robbery.

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) - Police in Memphis say three men have been charged with the fatal shooting of University of Memphis football player Taylor Bradford.

The 21-year-old defensive lineman was shot on September 30 after he walked out of the the Carpenter Complex, a residence hall located on Central Avenue near the northeast corner of campus, where he lived, and was in his car when the shooting occurred.

Former Oregon Police Officer Sentenced in Salem

Alexander was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 60 months' probation, he will also register as a sex offender.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A former Salem Police officer was sentenced in Marion County court this morning. Sterling Alexander had faced a number of charges stemming from three alleged sex abuse cases.

Of the multiple charges initially brought against Alexander, convictions were only reached on two counts; second-degree Sex Abuse and Official Misconduct.

Salem Veterinarian Attacked; Suspect Sought

The suspect was described as Hispanic, in his mid-20's, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a stocky build and shaved head.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem police are asking for the public's help in locating a man they say attacked a veterinarian outside a Market Street animal clinic last night.

Police say the veterinarian saw a man and woman arguing outside of the clinic, and she tried to break it up. The man then attacked the vet, knocking her to the ground, and tried to strangle her police said.

Military Amputees Could be Allowed to Return to Active Duty

New facilities like the Military Advanced Training Center at Walter Reed, which features state-of-the-art computers and video systems, help enhance the recovery process of wounded servicemembers

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Servicemembers who lose limbs should be enabled to resume active duty, the administrator of Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Amputee Care Center said last week.

The average age of today’s military amputees is 35, Army Maj. David Rozelle explained. Another statistic he likes to mention is the suicide rate among amputees from operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom: zero.
