Oregon Gets Additional Funding for Low Income Energy Assistance

The funding is part of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon is set to receive an additional $1.32 million for low income homeowners and renters to pay rising energy costs.

The emergency funding was requested by Senator Gordon Smith and 47 colleagues from cold weather states. “No one should have to pick between heating their home and putting food on the table,” said Smith.

University of Memphis Football Player Killed in Shooting

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) - The University of Memphis has canceled classes today after a football player was killed late Sunday night on the school's campus.

The school newspaper, the Daily Helmsman, identified the victim as 21-year-old Taylor Bradford, of Nashville. According to reports, Bradford was shot in the chest and pronounced dead a short time later at the Regional Medical Center.

UN Outraged Over Darfur Peacekeeper Attack

(UNITED NATIONS) - Condemning in the strongest possible terms the recent attack in Haskanita, South Darfur, which killed some 10 African Union (AU) peacekeepers, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today called for those responsible to be brought to justice for the "outrageous" act.

According to AU reports, personnel from the AU Mission in Sudan (AMIS) have also been wounded and many are missing following yesterday's "shocking and brutal assault," Mr. Ban said in a statement.

Overturned Truck Trailer Halts Traffic on I-205

The crash reported at 2:30 PM affects the northbound lanes of I-205.

(WILSONVILLE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say a tanker trailer has overturned and is partially blocking the far right northbound lane on Interstate 205 over the Willamette River in an area between West Linn and Oregon City.

Investigators on the scene say the trailer contains milk products which are reportedly leaking on the roadway. Motorists should expect probable traffic delays northbound in this area.

(OREGON CITY) - It is a story that we have heard in Oregon before; a suspect breaks forcibly enters a courthouse on a Saturday, causes extensive vandalism, and then is arrested. Fortunately for Oregon City, an arrest at their courthouse over the weekend did not result in the amount of damage and destruction that Marion County saw two years ago.

Investigators say a 17 year-old youth was observed forcing his way into the Clackamas County Courthouse Saturday at 2:50 PM, after it was closed for business.
