Keizer Police Develop Suspect in Violent Car Theft

The suspect in the May incident has been identified as 44-year old Willard Rado Stone, who uses the nickname "Billy."

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Police have identified a suspect in a May Car theft that involved the owner of the vehicle being dragged and injured.

Health Advisory Lifted at Lincoln City Beach

Health advisory lifted for water contact at D River State Park Beach.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - A health advisory for contact with marine water at D River State Park Beach in Lincoln County was lifted today by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The advisory was issued Wednesday, after water samples at D River State Park Beach showed higher-than-normal levels of enterococcus, a type of fecal bacteria, in the marine water.

Search Called Off for Man Missing Off Oregon Coast

The Coast Guard says weather conditions on scene were approaching gale force winds with water temperatures in the low to mid 50's.

(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 35-year-old man who fell overboard Saturday, near the Columbia River entrance.

Coast Guard Group Astoria received a call from the 36-foot fishing vessel Ida W II that one of their crew members had fallen overboard and was not wearing a life vest.

Suspect Sought in Independence Armed Robbery

Nobody was injured in the incident.

(INDEPENDENCE, Ore. ) - Independence police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Saturday night.

Police say a male subject armed with a handgun entered the Kwik Stop Market, located at 810 N. Main Street around 10:30 PM and demanded money. The suspect is described as either white or Hispanic, between 5'8 and 5'10, with a thin build.

UN Human Rights Council Discusses Myanmar Tuesday

A UN Special Envoy is traveling to Myanmar, calling for a non-violent approach toward demonstrators and journalists.

(BANGKOK, Thailand) - The United Nations Human Rights Council has announced it will hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the situation in Myanmar, amid growing calls for authorities in the Southeast Asian nation to exercise restraint in dealing with ongoing protests.

Myanmar has recently witnessed a wave of peaceful demonstrations, which began last month in protest against a surge in fuel prices and more recently have included many of the country’s monks.

Deadly Army Bus Attack in Kabul, Afghanistan

Top UN Envoy speaks out against the Saturday attack.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - The top United Nations envoy in Afghanistan expressed his outrage over the terrible loss of life from Saturday morning's army bus attack in capital Kabul, which is among deadliest the city has seen.

"We don't at this stage know the final numbers for dead and wounded but it is clear this attack is among the worst that Kabul has seen," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Special Representative Tom Koenigs said in a statement.

Sisters Man Dies in Single Car Crash

Police say alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor.

(UNION, Ore.) - A Sisters, Oregon man died early Saturday morning in a single vehicle crash on Highway 237 in northeast Oregon. Just before 7:00 AM Saturday, a report was received of an unwitnessed single vehicle crash on Highway 237 west of Union.

LifeFlight Called in For Oregon Motorcycle Crash

Police say highway conditions were wet at the time of the crash.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Two motorcyclists were injured, one seriously, after they lost control while trying to stop for slowing traffic Friday morning eastbound on Interstate 84 near Rooster Rock.

Police say the crash happened just after 11:00 AM, a group of about eight motorcycles traveling together eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 23 had to slow quickly for stopping traffic. Two motorcycle operators braked hard and lost control as their motorcycles went down onto the pavement.

Tualatin Swears In 24 Volunteer Firefighters Monday

The Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Clackamas County Fire District are two of the largest groups of volunteer firefighters in Oregon.

(Tualatin, Ore.) - Twenty-four local men and women will be sworn-in as Volunteer Firefighters at a Graduation Ceremony hosted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Clackamas County Fire District No. 1. This event follows their passage of a rigorous, ten week, 150-hour Volunteer Recruit Academy that began last July.

Guard and Reserve Must Take Action to Keep Health Benefits

As of early September only 15 percent of the approximately 11,000 current members had completed the new TRS request forms.

(FALLS CHURCH, Va.) - National Guard and Reserve members currently in the TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) health care plan must sign up for the restructured TRS by September 30th, 2007, in order to continue their coverage. The "old" TRS ceases to exist on that day. A restructured TRS begins October 1st, 2007.

"Don't forget to make the switch" should be the motto of the day as current TRS participants are automatically disenrolled on September 30th, 2007. Continued coverage under TRS is not automatic.
