Robber Snatches Deposit in Aloha Bank Doorway‏

The money was a deposit for a local business.

(ALOHA, Ore.) - Washington County deputies say a woman entering the U.S. Bank in Aloha Monday had her bank deposit snatched out of her hands by a thief in a "hoodie." They say the suspect got away with more than $8,000 in cash.

Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office there says it happened at 8:19 AM at the U.S. Bank located at 19091 S.W. Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha.

Cubans Storm From U.N. During Bush Speech

Cuban issued a statement calling the President a criminal who, "has no moral standing or credibility to judge any other country."

(UNITED NATIONS) - Cuba's delegation marched out of the U.N. General Assembly today as U.S. President George W. Bush made scathing statements toward Cuba, Iran, Zimbabwe and Myanmar, about what he called "freedom situations."

Radio Cadena Agramonte reports that the Cuban delegation to the 62nd U.N. General Assembly was led by Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque. They walked out of the plenary meeting as Bush was speaking.

“As America works with the United Nations to alleviate immediate human needs, we are also coming together to address long-term challenges,” President Bush said.

Republicans Try to Change California Election Rules

(SALEM, Ore.) - Democrats all over the nation are steaming over a Republican plan for a new election system in California. Howard Dean says the word about this new plan is spreading, and he is urging members of his part to do everything possible to keep the next presidential election honest.

"Apparently that's the Republicans' answer to our work in California. If they have their way, this reliably "blue" state won't be so blue in 2008. Faced with a strong Democratic presence, If they get what they're after, it could cost us the White House."

Wyden Halts Rizzo`s Run for CIA General Counsel

Rizzo told Wyden that he didn’t regret his decision not to object to an August 2002 memo which argued that inflicting physical pain short of organ failure does not constitute torture. Wyden responded that this interpretation was "clearly over the line."

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence today welcomed the administration’s decision to withdraw the nomination of John Rizzo to be General Counsel of the CIA.

"I opposed the nomination of John Rizzo to be the top lawyer at the CIA because he is the wrong man for the job,” Wyden said.

John Kroger Begins Oregon Attorney General Campaign

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Lewis & Clark College Associate Professor of Law John Kroger has announced his candidacy in the 2008 election for Oregon attorney general.

Kroger citing his experience as a former federal prosecutor, said if elected he will help Oregon confront challenges such as methamphetamine manufacturing and corporate pollution, employing an aggressive approach modeled after New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon DHS officials say the state continues to be a national leader in relieving hunger by helping thousands of families gain food security through the Food Stamp Program. Now that leadership has now drawn national recognition.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Oregon a $1.7 million performance bonus for being one of the four states that provide food stamps to the highest percentage of people who are eligible for food assistance. Oregon Man Killed When Motorcycle Strikes Cow

The cow was also killed in the the crash.

(BAKER CITY, Ore. ) - A Milwaukie, Oregon-area man was killed and his wife injured Monday night after the motorcycle collided with a Black Angus cow on Highway 7 about 35 miles southwest of Baker City.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 1200cc BMW motorcycle operated by 53-year-old Leigh Spurlock, from Milwaukie, and his passenger/wife, 48-year-old Donna Spurlock, were traveling south on Highway 7 near milepost 13 when it struck a Black Angus cow that was in the roadway.

Senate Authorizes Oregon Water Projects

Over $95 million included in Water Resources Development Act.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) today announced the Senate passage of the Water Resources Development Act, which authorizes $96 million in federal funding for water projects in Oregon.

“These funds will go to important infrastructure and watershed restoration projects across the state," said Wyden. “The long-term health of our environment is vital to the long-term health of Oregon's economy.”

U.S. Home Prices Plummet in August

Sales of existing homes drops for 13th straight month.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Existing-home sales fell in August when mortgage availability problems were peaking, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Total existing-home sales – including single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops – were down 4.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.50 million units in August from a level of 5.75 million in July, and are 12.8 percent below the 6.31 million-unit pace in August 2006.
