Illegal Marijuana Growing Operation Busted on Oregon Coast

Police are searching for other suspects in this case.

(SILETZ, Ore. ) - Two men were arrested this weekend, after members of the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team and the Lincoln Interagency Special Weapons and Tactics Team found them cultivating 23 marijuana plants on private timber property near Siletz, Oregon.

The arrested subjects were identified as Ryan Lowell Greene, age 25 of Logsden, Oregon, and David Robert Roeser, age 22 of Siletz.

1-in-10 Commercial Trucks Fail Oregon Inspections

Two persons were found in possession of methamphetamine and a third was in possession of marijuana.

(CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. ) - According to preliminary statistics, 512 inspections resulted in about 1-in-10 vehicles and nearly 20 percent of drivers placed out-of-service for equipment and driver-related safety violations during last week's three-day interagency commercial vehicle inspection at the Interstate 84 eastbound Cascade Locks Port of Entry.

A total of 512 commercial vehicles were inspected of which 55 (11%) were placed out-of-service for critical safety violations.

Portland Community College Enters 46th Year

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - This week marks the beginning of the 46th school year at Portland Community College, and it appears that as the college enters this year, it will be as popular as ever.

Dana Haynes with PCC says they conducted a survey in May and June and found that metro-area residents think highly of PCC. "The survey found that 73 percent of the respondents think PCC's operation and performance are 'pretty good' to 'excellent.' Another 70 percent are familiar with the PCC Communities magazine and non-credit schedule."

Disabled Vet Riders Visit Oregon Guard in Salem

Hollywood actor is among the Disabled Veteran Foundation riders who visited the Oregon National Guard Headquarters in Salem.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Emmy-nominated actor Jack Scalia visited Soldiers at the Oregon National Guard's Anderson Readiness Center in Salem, Oregon Monday. But instead of arriving in a limousine, as is customary for most actors, he arrived on a road racing bicycle.

The visit came during the Oregon leg of Scalia's Seattle-to-San Diego bicycle trek aimed at raising awareness and funds for injured military veterans and their families.

Benton County Seizes Record Marijuana Crop

The crop was spotted during an aerial operation near Alsea Falls.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - The largest marijuana seizure in Benton County history is much larger than officials initially thought. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office estimates that a sophisticated growing operation near Alsea Falls had produced over one thousand marijuana plants.

Phillip Hudspeth, Public Information Officer for Benton County, says it kept officers busy. "After an exhaustive count that took three days, the Sheriff’s Office says 7,951 total marijuana plants were seized in the September 20th raid."

Train Strikes and Kills Person in Oregon City

The person killed was a 34-year old man, his identity has not been released.

(OREGON CITY) - Police say a man was struck and killed by a Union Pacific freight train early this morning in Oregon City. Lt Lisa Nunes with Oregon City Police says it happened a few minutes after 3:00 AM.

She says officers were called out to 7th and Railroad in Oregon City, over the report of a subject hit by a train on the railroad tracks. Nunes says the operators of the Union Pacific train reported that a subject was on the tracks and failed to leave the tracks when the train came through.
