Good Samaritan Saves Man from Capsized Boat

The boat, named Outlaw, later grounded near the south jetty.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore. ) - Elliot Herder, a Coast Guard Auxiliary member from Rockaway Beach, Ore., was rescued by Good Samaritan, Tom Lions, after his boat capsized near Tillamook Bay, Ore., at 9:25 AM on Saturday.

The 20-foot fishing vessel Outlaw was near the south jetty when rough waters caused the boat to capsize, throwing Herder into the water.

Lions witnessed the capsizing from his nearby pleasure craft and quickly came to the rescue.

Oregon State Researchers Seeking Children for Study

The study is part of a $2.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State University reseachers are seeking children ages six to 15 for a new study that will record energy expenditure and changes in physical activity.

Man Arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer

Larry Gay is not and has not been a Stayton Police Reserve Officer.

(STAYTON, Ore. ) - Stayton Police arrested arrested 54-year-old Larry Gay for Impersonating a Police Officer and Criminal Trespass at the Bottle Factory Tavern at 1883 West Ida St. in Stayton.

Gay had been in the tavern and had been requested to leave by the employees after several incidents with other patrons.

Instead of leaving he told the employee he was going to be a Stayton Police Reserve and showed her a badge indicating he did not have to leave.

Inmate Escapes From Oregon Prison at Lakeview

The inmate's sentence began in June, he had a projected release date in March.

(LAKEVIEW, Ore.) - A minimum-custody inmate escaped Friday, Sept. 21 from Warner Creek Correctional Facility in Lakeview. He was discovered missing during the 10:30 p.m. inmate count. Preliminary information indicates that he may be headed toward Bend.

18-year old Chad Lee Edwards was serving 13 months for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from Deschutes County, and that sentence was running concurrently with a 14-month sentence for driving with a suspended/revoked license.

Salem Police Arrest Medical Marijuana Provider

(SALEM, Ore.) - Three Salem men were arrested Thursday for charges related to marijuana sales and possession. One of the three is a legal Medical Marijuana grower and provider, but police say amounts recovered were far in excess of legal limits under Oregon's Medical Marijuana Program.

Oregon Soldiers Participate in Aviation Accident Exercise‏

In the scenario, the planes collided while on approach for landing. During the two hour exercise, the first responders faced numerous simulated fatalities and victims with different injuries.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon National Guard soldiers participated in a large-scale aviation accident exercise with the Salem Fire Department Friday at the Salem Regional Airport.

Major Mike Braibish with the Oregon Guard says a total of eleven agencies participated in the exercise. Sixty local students from McKay and North Salem High Schools, as well as Soldiers from the Oregon National Guard's A Company, 641 Aviation unit played injured victims.

Water Quality Safe After Gresham Reservoir Vandalism

Three people were caught recently after breaking into the reservoir.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Water samples taken from the The City of Gresham's Grant Butte water distribution grid are negative for contamination following a vandalism break-in at the Grant Butte Reservoir Wednesday. That is what Gresham spokesperson Jill Foreman said, adding that the samples were directly from the reservoir.
