Horizon Air Canceling Flights for Landing Gear Inspections

Flights will be reinstated once the inspections have been completed and affected aircraft returned to service.

(SEATTLE) - Responding to Bombardier Aerospace's recommendations following two Q400 landing gear failure incidents in Europe, Horizon Air is canceling a number of flights beginning today in order to allow for prompt inspections to take place.

Once inspection specifications for Q400 operators are received, Horizon will initiate its checks of certain Q400s.

The inspections are purely precautionary, and limited to those Q400s with higher flight hours.

Polk County Sheriff`s Office Makes Arrest on Wildland Fire

Sheriff Bob Wolfe says the fire started when shots were fired into a tree stump.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspect today in the wildland fire that has burning since Saturday, scorching over 400 acres of land near Dallas.

Inmate Walks Away From Work Crew at Oregon State Fairgrounds‏

Anyone with information of Lole Rubio Zendejas' whereabouts is asked to call the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503-588-5032.

(SALEM, Ore.) - An inmate from the Marion County Jail walked away from a work crew today, deputies said. 22-year old Lole Rubio Zendeja of Salem, an inmate assigned to a Marion County Sheriff's Office inmate work crew, walked away from the Oregon State Fairgrounds where the crew was working.

A spokesperson says the inmate crew supervisor reported Zendejas missing at about 1:40 PM. Area law enforcement agencies were immediately notified.

Basic Rights Oregon Condemns 9/11 Comparison Made By Anti-Gay Petition Backers

Anti-discrimination group calls statements made by "Concerned Oregonians" bizarre and disgusting.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - John Hummel, Executive Director of Basic Rights Oregon, today condemned comments made by anti-gay activist David Crowe, who called an elections complaint against his group "Oregon's Own 9-11" and "an attack within our borders."

The complaint was filed last week against Crowe's group, "Concerned Oregonians" and another organization gathering signatures to force a vote on Oregon's new family fairness and anti-discrimination laws.

Suspect in Brooke Wilberger Case Convicted in New Mexico on Similar Charges

Courtney was expected to go to court in Oregon in September of this year, and the conclusion of the New Mexico should allow it to remain on schedule.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The man Oregon prosecutors believe is responsible for the disappearance of Brooke Wilberger, Joel Patrick Courtney, has pleaded guilty to Rape and Kidnapping charges in New Mexico.

Utah college student Brooke Wilberger was visiting her sister in Oregon. She disappeared from a Corvallis apartment complex May 24th, 2004.

Oregon Poison Center Wants Your Spiders, Dead or Alive

Oregon Poison Center aims to determine which Northwest spiders bite.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - The Oregon Poison Center at Oregon Health & Science University hopes to better understand spider bites in the Northwest by determining which spiders bite, which cause skin loss (ulcers), and specifically whether the much-maligned hobo spider does either.

Spider bites have been the subject of much folklore in medicine, but evidence directly linking spider bites to ulceration or infection is thin.

Considering American Heroes on September 11th

Are we prepared to take care of today's heroes? As a society we haven't always met the test.

(SALEM, Ore.) - As we commemorate the day that the United States was attacked in 2001, we must remember all who have perished in the ensuing wars overseas. Even more importantly, we must take the time to appreciate the people who have served and returned.

These are people who answered the call and have been sent to Iraq and Afghanistan repeatedly in a war on terrorism. They did not ask to go, and by many estimates their good natures have been abused and overextended by a military plan that was not well planned.
