Teamsters Rally at Kentucky Fried Restaurants

Union Launches Nationwide Protests Against Slashing of Worker Retirement and Health Benefits by KFC Corn Supplier National Frozen Foods Corporation.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Teamsters and student activists are rallying today at Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants across the country to demand, "that a key KFC supplier respect the rights of its workers and to urge that the supplier reverse disastrous cuts in health care and retirement benefits, including the elimination of health care benefits for its retirees."

Distributing leaflets drawing attention to what they say are a series of health code violations at local KFCs, the union and its community allies are demanding that Seattle-based National Frozen Foods Corporation cease all anti-worker activities at its plant in Chehalis, Washington.

Motorcyclist Found Dead at Crash Scene Near Albany

This intersection is located near the city limits of Albany south of where Oakville Rd crosses the Calapooia River. The crash is still under investigation.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Deputies in Linn County are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Oakville Road last night. The crash was discovered by 1st Sergeant Art Sprague with the Linn Sheriff's Office while on patrol Monday morning at 12:42 AM.

Dynamite Blast Kills 37 in Northern Mexico

Three Mexican reporters were among those killed.

(MEXICO CITY) - Authorities in northern Mexico say an explosion involving 25 pounds of dynamite killed 37 people, possibly more, and injured more than 140 others.

CNN reports that there were 30 critically wounded people and five of the injuries were extremely critical.

Eyewitnesses say the blast took place around 40 minutes after a truck carrying the explosives collided with another vehicle and caught fire.

Actress Jane Wyman Dead at 93

Wyman had been living in seclusion for a number of years because of declining health including arthritis and diabetes.

(LOS ANGELES) - Jane Wyman an Academy Award, Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated actress has died. She was 93.

Her most prolific appearances in film came in the 1940s and 1950s, and included her best known film roles in Johnny Belinda and Magnificent Obsession opposite Rock Hudson.

Wyman became known to new generations in the 1980s, not only for her leading role on the hit prime-time soap opera Falcon Crest, but also because of her prior marriage to former actor, then President, Ronald Reagan.

Red Flag Fire Warning Issued for Portland-Metro Area

The National Weather Service has issued this warning because of our high temperatures, low humidity and east wind conditions.

Under these conditions the possibility of wild fire is greatly increased also the possibility of any small fire becoming a large and destructive event.

Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Patriot Day

Patriot Day occurs on September 11th of each year, in memory of the nearly three thousand who died in the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff throughout Oregon on Tuesday, September 11th, in observance of Patriot Day.

President Bush also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time) marking the first plane crash on Sept. 11, 2001.

“As we reflect on the events of six years ago, we remember the innocent people who lost their lives on that terrible day,” said Governor Kulongoski.

It is believed that famed aviator Steve Fossett could have gone anywhere in the nearly 17,000 square mile search area during his flight, originating Monday, Sept. 3rd, from the Flying M Ranch near Yerington, Nev.
