Tips Sought on 1500 Road Fire in Polk County‏

The Oregon State Police and Polk County Sheriff's Office are coordinating with the Department of Forestry on the investigation.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - A 300-acre fire is burning along a logging road known as "1500 Road" in Polk County. The wildfire is burning about 10 miles southwest of the community of Dallas. Department of Forestry firefighters, fire engines and helicopters are fighting the fast-moving blaze, which is being driven by strong easterly winds.

As firefighters battle the blaze, investigators with state forestry are seeking details about a black, medium-sized SUV that was seen near the junction of 1500 Road and 1430 Road in the Bald Mountain area of Polk County around noon on Saturday.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has published the forensic sketch of the suspect they believe is responsible for the Wildcat Mountain Drive, Eagle Creek home invasion that was reported Friday.

Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office says the incident involved the rape of a woman who lives at the residence and robbery.

Two Alarm Fire at Big Eddy Marina Destroys Three Homes‏

The fire presented some very difficult challenges early in the incident when a standpipe system installed on the floating docks ruptured and failed.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Three homes at Big Eddy Marina were totally destroyed by a 2-alarm fire early Saturday morning. Big Eddy Marina located at 19609 NE Marine Drive, contains approximately 66 homes.

Lt Doug Jones with Portland Fire & Rescue says a passerby on Marine Drive reported the fire at about 5:28 AM. This marina is located in the City of Gresham Fire District. "When Gresham firefighters arrived at 5:36 AM, they reported at least one fully involved houseboat fire. A second alarm was called for at 5:44 AM."

Steve Fossett Search Enters 6th Day

Aerial search exceeds 150 flight-hours, covers more than half of 10,000-sq.-mi. area.

(MINDEN, Nev. ) - Day six of the search effort for famed aviator Steve Fossett began today, with air and ground crews from more than a dozen agencies continuing to cover the 17,000-square-mile search area in western Nevada and eastern California.

Authorities believe Fossett could have gone anywhere in that area during his flight, which began Sept. 3rd from the Flying M Ranch near Yerington, Nev.

About 26 aircraft, 230 ground searchers and one sonar-equipped boat are participating in the search.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - An Oregon State Police recruit trooper will not be prosecuted in a recent crash involving his patrol car and a baby stroller being pushed across Highway 99 in Junction City one week ago.

Lane County Deputy District Attorney Alex Gardner announced during a news conference today that his office found no fault on the part of Recruit Trooper Clay Core.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect in a home-invasion, rape and robbery incident that occurred this morning in Eagle Creek.

The incident happened this morning inside a residence on SE Wildcat Mountain Drive in Eagle Creek, according to Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, a woman in her 60's, reported that a male subject armed with a knife broke into her home, raped her and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

Oregon State Fair Wraps Up Successful 2007 Season

The 2007 Oregon State Fair Sets Modern Day Record for Single Day Attendance at over 49,000 patrons.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Fair Manager Dave Koellermeier released pre-audited attendance and market research data detailing the recently completed 11-day annual Oregon State Fair.

While overall attendance for the 2007 Oregon State Fair was up 2% following a 10% increase in 2006 over 2005, several recognizable attendance precedents were set during the 2007 Fair.

Salem-Area Food Share Warehouse Nearly Empty

In each of the last three months, an average of 5,257 families had to rely on a food box to avoid hunger.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Food reserves in the Marion-Polk Food Share warehouse in Salem are at dangerously low levels.

That’s significant, since Food Share supplies the majority of the emergency food supply for each of 73 member charities/programs that work cooperatively to aid the hungry in the two-county region.

“If food stopped coming in today, our warehouse would be empty in five days,” said Executive Director Ron Hays.

Food Share’s most recent service numbers reveal that 44% of those eating from food boxes in the Salem-Keizer area are children.
