Area Heroes Honored by the Red Cross

Each year the Willamette Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross recognizes those who go above and beyond the call of their communities.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross honored local citizens at the third annual REAL HEROES Breakfast Thursday.

“The event is held in September not only because it is National Disaster Preparedness Month but also as a time when we recall the incredible heroism of so many Americans following the attacks of September 11th”, said Karen Schultz, executive director of the Red Cross.

Oregon Woman Found Alive After 2 Weeks in Wilderness

Doris Anderson was found Thursday and is in critical but stable condition after surviving the elements, alone in the mountains.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - 76-year old Doris Anderson was missing for almost two weeks in the Wallowa Mountains of Eastern Oregon, and miraculously was found alive Thursday afternoon.

The Baker County Sheriff's Office said Ora Doris Anderson of Sandy had a hip injury and was dehydrated, but she was conscious and alert, when she was found just after 2 PM Thursday. A helicopter team was able to extricate her from the rugged terrain, and she was airlifted to a Baker City hospital.

Parents, Child Die in Oregon Murder Suicide

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Portland Police are investigating a possible murder suicide in northeast Portland.

Officers were called to the home on Northeast 110th Ave and Glisan Street just after 11:30 PM Thursday after receiving a tip from family members in California who said the couple sent them an e-mail saying they intended to commit suicide.

A police spokesman says that when officers arrived at the home, they found a hose hooked up to the exhaust pipe of a hearse parked in the driveway and attached to the air ducting of the home.

New, Updated Official Oregon State Map Released

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has updated the Official Oregon State Map to include new city streets in growing communities and additional safety messages for motorists.

The 2007 – 2009 Official Oregon State Map is available at state welcome centers, chambers of commerce, state parks and other locations throughout Oregon. ODOT distributes the highway map at no charge.

Oregon’s welcome centers consistently report that the map is the single most-requested travel information resource.

Police Plan Increased Patrols for Sublimity Harvest Festival‏

The patrols are funded through a multi-agency traffic team (MATT) grant from ODOT.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Citizens will see increased patrols in the Sublimity area for the Sublimity Harvest Festival September 7th through 9th.

There will be as many as 11 additional patrol in the area for this event at any given time.

These additional patrols will be conducing traffic enforcement with an emphasis on Driving Under the Influence, speed and seatbelt use.

(SALEM, Ore.) - State officials say time is running out for businesses and individuals to come clean if they used abusive tax shelters to avoid paying taxes.

If they wait, it is reported that they could face paying bigger penalties than ever, under a new bill passed by the Oregon Legislature.

AMBER ALERT Canceled for Children Abducted in Spokane, Washington Found Safe

All three children were safely recovered at a Spokane women's shelter. The mother is in custody and will be taken to the Spokane County Jail.

(SPOKANE, Wash.) - Police in Spokane say three children were abducted Thursday morning from the home of their grandmother, who was approached by two well dressed strangers claiming to have authority to remove children from her care.

Those kids are all safe now and the three kids are in custody. Police say the kids were assigned to be at their grandmother's home by Child Protective Services.
