Pet Hospital Escapee Bristol Captured on Interstate 205 and Returned

"Bristol" had been dropped off that morning by his owner at the Banfield Pet Hospital inside Petsmart.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - "Bristol", a 3-year old Pug, was safely retrieved Thursday morning by an Oregon State Police trooper during heavy traffic on Interstate 205 after his "unauthorized departure" from a local pet hospital.

The dog had been the subject of several citizen reports and a search by pet hospital employees before he was found and returned.

US Youth Suicide Rate Jumps to Highest Levels in 15 Years

(WASHINGTON, D.C. ) - Following a decline of more than 28 percent, the suicide rate for 10-to-24-year-olds increased by 8 percent, the largest single-year rise in 15 years, according to a report released today in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention′s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Rates rose for 10-to-14-year-old females, 15-to-19-year-old females and 15-to-19-year-old males from 2003 to 2004. The decline took place from 1990 to 2003.

Willamette Falls Locks Temporarily Closed September 6th

This is a temporary closure, officials expect the Willamette Falls Locks to operate through Sept. 30th, when it will close for the season.

(OREGON CITY) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close the Willamette Falls Locks today due to an underwater hydraulic line failure. A spokesperson says the locks should re-open for its normal schedule tomorrow if workers can repair the failure today.

The failure caused about 12 gallons of hydraulic fluid to be released into the lock. As soon as the fluid was seen, operators set up an oil spill containment boom and absorbent materials inside the lock. Clean-up efforts began shortly thereafter.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Attorney General Hardy Myers today issued a call to federal and state leaders to address serious deficiencies in federal and state laws and educational policies that leave students vulnerable to violence in their schools and on college campuses.

As a member of the National Association of Attorneys General Task Force on School and Campus Safety, Myers released a 14-page report that includes specific recommendations that address threat assessment, protocols for dealing with the mentally ill, information sharing among law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, and crisis response planning and communications.

Vancouver Investigators Looking for Violent Sex Offender‏

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - Detectives in Vancouver are seeking assistance from the public in locating a man they describe as a violent sex offender. 28-year old Troy Matthew Fich, is wanted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Resisting Arrest & Parole Violations.

He was originally charged with Second Degree Assault with Sexual Motivation in 2004. The Washington State Department of Corrections monitoring unit requested the assistance of their Career Criminal Apprehension Team last month to locate Fich.

Civil Air Patrol Expands Search for Steve Fossett

An ARCHER-equipped Gipplsand GA-8 Airvan was dispatched from the Utah Wing in the continuing search for Fossett, who was last seen about 9:00 AM Monday when he took off from the Flying M Ranch's private airstrip near Yerington, Nev., in a Citabria Super Decathalon single-engine aircraft with the tail number N240R.

Marion County Gets New Sheriff

Prior to working for Salem, Isham worked for the Marion County Sheriff's Office which he will now rejoin.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Marion County Board of Commissioners has hired a Salem Police Lieutenant as the new County Sheriff.

Russ Isham will replace Raul Ramirez as the head of the local Sheriff's Office, based on a decision made Wednesday.

He was one of two men in the running for the position. Marion County Undersheriff Greg Olsen who has many years of experience with Marion County was the other top choice.
