Elections Complaint Alleges Illegal Activity Among Opponents of Anti-Discrimination Laws

According to the complaint, an organization called "Concerned Oregonians" and another group are misleading voters by claiming that contributions to their efforts are eligible for a "dollar-for-dollar" political tax credit of up to $100.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A complaint has been filed with the Oregon Secretary of State's Elections Division against groups gathering signatures to oppose Oregon's new family fairness and anti-discrimination laws.

The complaint, filed by elections activist Ellen Lowe, says the groups are breaking the law by misrepresenting themselves to voters and using false information to solicit campaign contributions.

Police Search in McMinnville May Have Led to Discovery of Christopher Lampkin`s Body

Leonardo Gonzalez was indicted for the murder of Christopher Marcus Lampkin.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - The remains of a Salem man named Christopher Lampkin who has been missing since April 2006, may have been discovered on a farm on SW Oldsfield Road in McMinnville this week.

Information released today by Prosecutor Courtland Geyer confirms that a warrant, served by Salem Police, was related to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Christopher Marcus Lampkin, though he says a positive identification has not been made at this point.

Homes Near GW Fire See Threat Reduce

The Governor invoked the Conflagration Act Monday at 8:38 PM, and ordered the State Fire Marshal to dispatch firefighters and equipment to help local resources provide structural protection.

(BLACK BUTTE, Ore.) - Structural firefighters from Linn, Clackamas, Benton and Yamhill counties have been demobilized from the GW Conflagration due to the decreasing threat to structures in the area, a spokesperson from the state of Oregon reported today.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal Red Incident Management Team turned control of the fire back to the Black Butte Ranch Fire District for structural protection at 6:00 PM last evening.

Oregon, Nationwide Gas Prices Move Upward

The average price in the Salem-area moved up 6-cents in the past week to $2.76 a gallon.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Refinery problems once again fueled an upsurge in Midwest gasoline prices, which pushed the national average price for a gallon of regular up a nickel during the past week to $2.78.

The impact of that region's tight supplies and holiday demand was felt, but not so severely, in the Pacific Northwest where Oregon's average price gained more than 3-cents per gallon to $2.77.

Oregon State Seeking Volunteers for Study on Smoking, Cancer Risk

Volunteers for the study should be between the ages of 18 and 65.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Researchers at Oregon State University are seeking volunteers for a study to evaluate biomarkers for smoking-related cancer risk.

Free smoking cessation classes also will be offered to participants in the study, along with $20 compensation for smoking cessation supplies.

The goal of this pilot study is to test new methods of assessing damage from smoking.

CAP: Still No Sign of Missing Aviator Steve Fossett

An Gippsland GA-8 Airvan from the Utah Wing, equipped with CAP's ARCHER hyperspectral imaging system, was dispatched to assist in the mission.

(MINDEN, Nev.) - A lone pilot, identified as famed aviator Steve Fossett, last seen Sept. 3rd, remains missing despite early search efforts by the the U.S. Civil Air Patrol, in addition to private resources from the Flying M Ranch near Yerington, Nev.; Naval Air Station Fallon; the Nevada National Guard; and the California Highway Patrol.

According to reports from the Flying M's private airstrip, where the pilot took off Labor Day morning, he was flying a Citabria Super Decathlon single-engine aircraft with the tail number N240R.

Pending US Home Sales Fall Due to Mortgage Tightening

In the West, the index fell 20.8 percent in July to 82.3 and was 21.8 percent below July 2006.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Pending home sales, a forward-looking indicator, shows existing-home sales are likely to decline in coming months as mortgage disruptions work their way through the housing market, according to the National Association of Realtors.

The Pending Home Sales Index, based on contracts signed in July, fell 12.2 percent to a reading of 89.9 in July from the June index of 102.4, and was 16.1 percent lower than July 2006 when it stood at 107.1.

Mattel Recalls More Chinese Toys on Lead-Paint Worries

No Barbie dolls are included within the recall.

(EL SEGUNDO, Calif.) - Mattel, Inc. announced Tuesday that, as a result of the company’s ongoing investigation of its toys manufactured by vendors in China, the company has voluntarily recalled 11 toys globally, including eight pet and furniture playsets sold under the Barbie brand and three Fisher-Price toys, due to impermissible levels of lead.

In total, there are 530,000 affected toys in the U.S., and 318,000 affected toys outside of the U.S. Mattel has completed the testing program for the majority of its toys, including all of its toys currently sourced from vendors.

Keizer Fire District Ceremony Set to Remember 9-11 Attack

The time of the ceremony is to coincide with the time the two towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - The Keizer Fire District will remember the tragic events and those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania on September 11th, 2001.

"A remembrance ceremony, on the sixth anniversary of this tragic event, will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM," Fire Spokesman Jim Trett said.
