Gonzales Resigns as U.S. Attorney General

The friend of President Bush is the latest to resign his post from the Bush administration.

(SALEM, Ore.) - US Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales has announced that he will step down from office. The embattled head of the nation's legal system submitted his resignation to President George Bush over the telephone Friday. The public announcement came today during a news conference in the nation's capitol.

As he became the butt of jokes on the late night talk shows over his inability to recall pivotal events surrounding the firing of US federal prosecutors, it is likely that the public will remember this man more vividly than he remembers those he was charged with serving.

Serious Injury Crash on Oregon Highway 18

The crash on Oregon Highway 18 at mile post 41, approximately 5 miles west of McMinnville has been cleared.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Three people were seriously injured Monday morning in a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 18 about four miles west of McMinnville. The highway was reopened about 1:30 PM.

Police say that at approximately 10:15 AM, a 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe was eastbound on Highway 18 when, for an unknown reason, it drifted onto the gravel shoulder, then re-entered traffic and struck another car head-on.

Man Dies From Fall While Bowhunting Near Tillamook

The victim died at the scene before he could be retrieved and taken to a hospital.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - A Tillamook-area man fell to his death while bow hunting with his brother Saturday afternoon on private property about 3 miles north of Trask River Road.

Police say that at approximately 1:04 PM, the victim's brother, 50-year old William Harrison of Tillamook, called 9-1-1 after hiking about three miles from the scene where he had left his seriously injured brother who had fallen about 250 feet down a cliff.

New Mobile DUII Processing Center Will Speed Police Arrest Time

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police and transportation officials in Oregon say the latest tool in the state's toolbox for fighting intoxicated drivers is the new mobile DUII processing center.

It is described as "a police station on wheels" and its mission is to help keep impaired drivers off Oregon highways during special events around the state.

Kevin Rau with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says that just after 1:30 PM Friday, deputies responded to the area of Liberty Rd S near Hylo Rd S on a report of a bicycle versus car crash.

Crews Locate Missing Hikers on Larch Mountain

Two Six-Year Old Kids Among those who were found, nobody was hurt and rescuers say they were prepared for the elements.

(CORBETT, Ore.) - A cell phone call from four lost hikers to a friend sent rescue crews scrambling into action Wednesday. They said they were lost in the Larch Mountain wilderness, and indicated to the friend that they had disoriented and were unable to find their way out.

Rescuers say the people had set out earlier that day to pick mushrooms and were familiar with the area south of Larch Mountain Road at MP 8.

Former Police Officer Arrested on 6 Counts of 1st Degree Theft

$29,000 of union funds are missing, police say, and they believe Rodriguez is responsible.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police detectives arrested a former Woodburn police officer Wednesday morning related to the alleged theft of funds while he was the treasurer for the Woodburn Police Association.

Oregon State Police Detective Terri Davie arrested 33-year old Robert Rodriguez of Salem, on six counts of Theft in the First Degree.

Oregon Ocean Salmon Sport Season Closes at Midnight August 25th

The closure doesn’t affect fisheries south of Cape Falcon or the popular “Buoy 10” salmon fishery inside the Columbia River.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The ocean salmon recreational fishery between Leadbetter Point, Wash., and Cape Falcon, Ore., will close effective midnight Saturday, when the coho quota for the season is expected to be reached.

This closure includes all salmon and steelhead in the ocean area off the Columbia River, but does not affect any seasons upstream from Buoy 10 inside the Columbia River.
