Crash Kills Arizona Man Near Baker City

Oregon State Police troopers from the Baker City work site are continuing the investigation.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - A Mesa, Arizona man died and his wife was injured Monday afternoon when their sport utility vehicle lost control and rolled eastbound on Interstate 84 about ten miles east of Baker City.

Police say that around 3:25 PM Monday,, a 2003 Ford Excursion towing a travel trailer was being operated by 76-year old Dean J. Phelps of Mesa, Arizona eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 318.

Albany Police Seize 8 Pounds of Marijuana

Police say an initial arrest led to many more charges.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police say they received a call of public indecency Monday at noon, involving a male in a vehicle in the Heritage Mall parking lot located at 1895 SE 14th Avenue.

Responding officers found the vehicle disabled and blocking traffic in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue. Officers spoke with the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, who identified himself verbally as 25-year old Albany resident Cain Calderon.

Average Gasoline Prices Continue to Fall

Oregon prices bumped up a tad overnight, but should settle. Holiday auto travel is projected to be slightly less than a year ago, so there's no extreme increase anticipated in fuel demand.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - With Labor Day only a week away, motorists will find continuing relief at the fuel pump. In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline lost another three and a half cents to $2.75.

In Oregon, the average price fell more than a penny to $2.74. These average prices are the lowest they've been since early April. Compared to last year, the current national average price is about a dime per gallon lower, and Oregon's is 27 cents lower.

Oregonians Mired in Poverty and Lacking in Health Insurance Despite Income Gains for Typical Household

Full-time work fails to lift families out of poverty, while the typical household fails to rebound from the 2001 recession.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - While the typical Oregon household's income rose in 2005-06 by $1,667 over 2004-05, Oregon was unable to reduce poverty or the percentage of Oregonians lacking health insurance, according to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau and analyzed by the Silverton-based Oregon Center for Public Policy (OCPP), a nonpartisan research institute.

"The typical Oregon household has seen their income improve somewhat," said Michael Leachman, a policy analyst with the public policy research institute, "but has not recovered from the recession after several years of economic growth." Leachman noted that Oregon's median household income in 2005-06 was $46,349, down $3,100 in inflation-adjusted dollars from the pre-recession level of $49,449 in 1999-00.

Homes Retested for Lead and Copper in Drinking Water

All of the City’s more than 15,000 water customers will soon see a lead-alert message on their monthly water bills and will receive an educational brochure containing information about how to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Nine of 60 Albany homes that were retested in June 2007 for lead and copper in the drinking water from their taps exceeded the EPA action level for lead in drinking water, according to Jim Young, Water Distribution Supervisor for the City of Albany.

“The City has found no indication of lead in City’s water distribution system; the problem is with the plumbing in the homes,” Young said.

Semi Rollover Snarls Traffic in Tualitan

The driver of the truck was transported to an area hospital.

(TUALITAN, Ore.) - Tualatin Police responded to a rollover crash early this afternoon that snarled area traffic for a couple of hours.

The crash occurred at about 12:42 PM today, on SW Teton Road, near the intersection with SW Manhasset Drive in Tualatin. A semi truck, pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with lumber, tipped over and blocked the roadway. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

Jefferson Fire District Water Rescue Team Searches for Overturned Canoe

Emergency responders say this should serve as a reminder of the importance of wearing lifejackets.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - The Jefferson Fire District Water Rescue Team was alerted to an overturned canoe north of the Buena Vista Ferry on the Willamette River early this afternoon. They were able to locate a couple safely.

Elaine Parrott with the Jefferson Fire District, says Gary and Barbara Cates were trying to avoid an overhanging branch while canoeing on the Willamette River, when they lost their paddles and the canoe overturned.

Driver Dies From Injuries in Crash Near Elkton, Oregon

Two men died when the vehicle left the roadway and went down an embankment.

(ELKTON, Ore.) - Oregon State Police have now received positive confirmation that the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal traffic crash early Sunday morning on Highway 38 about six miles west of Elkton has died at a Eugene-area hospital.

Kroc Center Breaks Ground in Salem

Signs have been posted on Portland Road NE and Salem Industrial Drive NE notifying the public and businesses of the Wednesday closure.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Groundbreaking for Salem's Kroc Center will take place on Wednesday. Planned festivities include music which begins at 10:30 AM. The program will likely conclude by 1:30 PM.

Bill Frey Drive NE will be closed to through traffic beginning at 10:00 AM. Access will be allowed only to those attending the ceremony. Volunteers organized by the Salvation Army will oversee parking.

Suspect in Credit Union Robberies Captured

Anyone with additional information concerning bank or credit union robberies, the “CU Tattoo” bandit, or any possible accomplices, should call the FBI Field Office in Portland Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The FBI says Marc Timothy Rzegocki, was arrested on Tuesday by Portland Police and FBI agents on an outstanding warrant for a federal parole violation.

Rzegocki, who is 54, was on federal parole after serving approximately 21 years of a prison sentence for bank robbery in Portland, Oregon. Agents say a federal warrant was issued after Eugene police detectives developed Rzegocki as the suspected bandit in the Pacific Cascades Federal Credit Union robbery, in Eugene, OR, on June 27th.
