Marijuana Field Raided in Linn County, Oregon

Last September, Linn County Sheriff's deputies raided a 4,700 plant operation that was only a short distance from the area these plants were found.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Linn County Sheriff's deputies have eradicated a large outdoor marijuana operation in a remote area between Scio and Lyons.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through Thursday, deputies, assisted by members of the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team pulled and destroyed 3,400 marijuana plants. Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says some of the plants reached over 10 feet in height.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Two Oregon television/Internet reporters were embedded with the Oregon National Guard's 41st Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan. The soldiers have rotated home, but the YouTube video reports filed by Scott Kesterson continue to draw sharp criticism from Canadian soldiers and their families.

While Salem-News.com's Tim King spent two months in country covering many aspects of operations in the North part of the country, Kesterson spent most of his time actually covering the Canadian combat operations around Kandahar.

Bogus Phone Scam is Dialing Oregon Residents Automatically

The First Tech Credit Union says it is a phone "phishing" scam that comes from an automatic recording.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Residents of Beaverton, Aloha, and Salem are reporting that they have received an automated phone call purporting to be from First Tech Credit Union. The recording states that their account has expired and then provides a 1-800 number to call to resolve the problem.

The initial recording is as follows, "Hello - This is official notification from First Tech Credit Union informing you that your payments and transfers services are expired and need to be renewed immediately.

Penalty Will Increase for Cheating on DMV Test

Oregon increases punishment for residents considered "cheaters" at the DMV.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The penalty for cheating on the DMV knowledge test will get tougher starting Sept. 4th. Under a pilot policy, applicants who DMV determines are cheating will not be eligible to retake any knowledge test for 90 days.

“Our policy had been to give applicants caught cheating a failing score, which allowed them to retake the test the next business day,” said Stephanie Miles, DMV field services manager. “But we need a stronger deterrent than the one-day wait and having to pay the test fee again.”

Oregon Civil Air Patrol Prepares for Major Exercise

The CAP will conduct aerial and ground operations across the state to respond to numerous fictional incidents that could involve elements of terrorist activities.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Oregon U.S. Civil Air Patrol is gearing up for a major USAF graded exercise. Spokesman Thomas Traver says it involves state wide capability of the CAP to conduct multiple emergency operations based on real world potential incidents within Oregon.

The Exercise, which happens every two years across the country, is based on real world potential actions that would require the response capabilities of the wing to assist local and federal agencies in time of emergency.
