State, National Average Fuel Prices Continue Decline

Prices continue to fall even as we approach Labor Day.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Although the price of crude oil remains above $70 per barrel, Americans are enjoying a continued decline in fuel prices. In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell more than six cents to $2.77; Oregon's statewide average also lost six cents, down to $2.79, the lowest it's been since March 15th.

Portland is again the place where Oregonians are buying their cheapest gallon of regular, with a price of $2.732. Salem is slightly behind with a cost of $2.738.

Oregon Coast Man Dies in Crash on Highwy 34

The crash claimed the life of 52-year old Carl John Olson of Waldport.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash this afternoon on Highway 34 just west of Interstate 5. The victim is reportedly from the Waldport-area and next of kin have been notified. Both vehicles were occupied by fathers from the Waldport area and their adult sons.

OSP Public Information Officer Lieutenant Gregg Hastings, says the crash happened at 12:40 PM, just west of Interstate 5 on Highway 34.

Salem Police Shoot and Kill Suspect After Car Chase

The officer was injured, not shot, in the incident and was evaluated at Salem Hospital.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in northeast Salem that stemmed from the pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

Salem police spokesman Lt. Dan Dietz says the incident occurred near 418 45th Ave in northeast Salem.

The suspects fled the vehicle on foot, and one suspect confronted the officer.

Oregon`s Unemployment Rate Climbs in July

Government cut 28,300 jobs in July as the summer education reductions took hold.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Oregon's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 5.5 percent in July from 5.1 percent in June.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 in July and 4.5 percent in June.

In July, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 2,100, following a loss of 1,600 in June.

13 People Busted in Pre-Dawn Drug Raid

Police say the operation has been underway for five months.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - A pre-dawn drug raid has netted several methamphetamine suspects in Polk County.

Sheriff Bob Wolfe says the operation called "End Game," "is an excellent example of several agencies working together toward a common goal of dealing with the methamphetamine trafficking that is taking place in our communities."

Nine Charged in Sex Trafficking Ring Involving Guatemalan Minors

Victims as young as 13 were promised jobs, then suffered threats and beatings.

(LOS ANGELES) - Six members of a Guatemalan family and three associates have been indicted for their roles in a sex trafficking ring that recruited young women in Guatemala with false promises of high-paying jobs, smuggled the victims into the United States, and forced them to work as prostitutes to pay smuggling fees.

The indictment details alleged abuses of the women including guarding the victims to prevent their escape; threats of violence to the women and of harm to their families in Guatemala; and beatings to coerce and force the victims into working.

NASA Adds 3 Days to Space Shuttle Mission

Mission managers decided Sunday to extend Endeavour's mission by three days.

(HOUSTON) - Endeavour spacewalkers Dave Williams and Rick Mastracchio are rolling along with the replacement a faulty attitude control device on the International Space Station.

They have removed the faulty device, called a control moment gyro (CMG), from the Z1 truss. The Z1 houses four CMGs that are used to maintain the station orientation in space.

Meanwhile, crew members are transferring cargo between Endeavour and the station.

Karl Rove Saying Goodbye to White House

Bush nicknamed Rove "the architect" for creating the plan that won the White House in 2000 and 2004.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Karl Rove, the man credited by many with winning George W. Bush the last two US presidential elections, has resigned effective August 31st.

Rove, the president's deputy chief of staff, said he would leave his role to spend more time with his family.

Rove told the Wall Street Journal that he thought Hillary Clinton -- a "tough, tenacious, fatally flawed candidate" -- would win the 2008 presidential nomination.

Police Investigating Woman`s Death at Salem Park

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was found just after 7:00 AM in Englewood Park.

A Salem police spokesman says detectives, the medical examiner, and officals with the Marion County District Attorney's Office are on scene.

The park is located at 1298 19th Street NE.
