Tropical Storm Erin Threatens Texas, Mexico

At 11:30 AM EDT, the storm was centered 250 miles east of Brownsville, Texas, and about 290 miles east-northeast of La Pesca, Mexico.

(GALVESTON, TX) - tropical storm Erin The National Weather Service is keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Erin in the Gulf of Mexico as it nears the lower Texas and Mexico coastlines.

Texas Governor Rick Perry has ordered emergency vehicles and personnel, including National Guard troops, to the region in advance of the weather system.

The NWS says rainfall and thunderstorms associated with Erin will begin to affect the area tonight.

Man Shot by Salem Police Officer After Car Chase Identified

Salem police are seeking two other men involved in the stolen-car chase.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - shooting investigation image The Marion County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday identified the man shot and killed by a Salem police officer Monday after a struggle following a pursuit.

The man was identified as 19-year-old Cesar Alejandro Gonzalez-Meza from Stayton who was wanted on drug charges and a probation violation.

Tropical Depression 5 Nears Texas, Mexico Coastline

At 11:00 PM ET, tropical depression five was centered about 425 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, Texas.

(GALVESTON, TX) - texas tropical depression The National Weather Service is keeping a close eye on a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico as it nears the lower Texas and Mexico coast.

The NWS says rainfall and thunderstorms associated with tropical depression five will begin to affect the area tonight.

On Thursday, the storm is expected to make landfall somewhere between the mouth of the Rio Grande and Corpus Christi, and is expected to bring 3 to 5 inches of rain.

Fallujah Marine Faces Charges of Conspiracy to Murder in Federal Court

The witness in one case against a Marine who had just joined Riverside, California Police, reportedly said he did not see the killings, but the Iraq vet was fired almost immediately over an allegation.

(LOS ANGELES, Ca.) - A fire burning in Iraq from an explosion. Former Marine Corps Sergeant Jose Nazario may face charges of conspiracy to commit murder in Federal District Court in Los Angeles, California for killing eight Iraqi prisoners of war in Fallujah, Iraq in November 2004.

Nazario was a squad leader in Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines at Fallujah. He was implicated in the shooting of eight Iraqis as the result of statements made by a former squad member.

Brush Fire East of Jefferson Doubles in Size

The fire's actual location is on an island known as Wiseman Island or Miller Island, is not accessible by vehicle.

(WISEMAN/MILLER ISLAND, Ore.) - Fire east of Jefferson, Oregon, 8-14-07 A brush fire burning on Wiseman/Miller Island on the North Santiam River east of Jefferson and south of the community of Marion was described as "very active today" by the region's Fire District Spokesperson, Elaine Parrott. It is estimated that approximately 100 acres have burned since the fire started on Saturday evening.

Fire district personnel from Jefferson and Stayton were able to get an aerial view of the fire today, she said.

Oregon Man Arrested for Castrating Ex-Girlfriends Cat

The cat is expected to fully recover.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - jail hands image Police in Eugene, Oregon say a man who was frustrated with his ex-girlfriend took that anger out on her cat by castrating it with a box cutter.

31-year-old Jerry Caswell was arrested and charged with multiple counts stemming from the incident.

Police say Caswell was angry at his ex-girlfriend for not coming to his house. So he drugged the cat, named "Romeo", with human medication and then castrated it with a box cutter.

Mattel Announces Second Massive Toy Recall

Latest recall from China involves cars, magnet toys.

(EL SEGUNDO, Calif.) - toy recall sarge Mattel, Inc. announced on Tuesday that the company has voluntarily recalled one toy from the "CARS" die-cast vehicle line ("Sarge" character), manufactured between May 2007 and July 2007, containing impermissible levels of lead.

The recalled vehicles include 436,000 total toys, including 253,000 in the U.S. and 183,000 outside of the U.S.

Mattel announced the voluntary recall of magnetic toys manufactured between January 2002 and January 31st, 2007, including certain dolls, figures, play sets and accessories that may release small, powerful magnets.

Be Aware! Nighttime Closures of Turner Road

Drivers should visit www.TripCheck.com or call 511 for the most current traffic advisories.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - salem traffic image On Wednesday, Aug. 15th, Thursday, Aug. 16th, and Tuesday, Aug. 21, Turner Road will be closed from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Signs will be used to notify drivers of detours.

There will also be additional daytime single-lane closures, controlled by flaggers, on Turner Road. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
