10 People Safe After Boat Explodes on Willamette River (UPDATED)

5 patients, suffering from minor burns, were sent to area hospitals, treated and released.

(OREGON CITY, Ore. ) - Just after midnight Saturday, a 26' cabin cruiser, with 10 passengers aboard, stalled in the middle of the upper Willamette River and exploded approximately one-half mile from the Oregon City falls.

Reportedly, the captain, Ryan Smith, and his passengers, were attempting to restart the engine of this boat while it sat stalled in the middle of the river above the Oregon City falls.

High-Tech Video Camera Dropped into Utah Mine

Officials remain hopeful that the six men trapped in the mine are still alive.

(HUNTINGTON, Utah) - Rescuers hope to get a look today inside the Crandall Canyon Mine chamber in which six trapped miners have been since early Monday.

The 8 5/8-inch drill bit reached the chamber at 5:15 AM EDT this morning, and workers pulled out the drill pipe.

At 9:47 AM EDT, crews began lowering down a high-resolution camera that will allow them to look out for about 100 feet in 360 degrees.

Police in Oregon Recover Car Stolen 21 Years Ago

No charges are anticipated against the man who was unaware of the stolen status of the vehicle when he purchased the car from a third party.

(SHERIDAN, Ore.) - On August 10th, Oregon State Police troopers recovered a 1940 Plymouth sedan that was reported stolen exactly 21 years ago.

The owner of the Plymouth, Bruce Rask of Rainier, reported to police in August 1986 that his 1940 Plymouth -- a 4-door sedan with suicide doors that he hoped to restore to its original condition -- had been stolen.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire investigators say a massive blaze at the McMahan's Furniture store in Salem, Oregon August 10th of last year was caused by an "electrical system failure of undetermined type."

This determination is officially listed as the most probable cause of the fire, though insurance companies and private fire investigators have now taken possession of the direct evidence to conduct costly, additional testing.

Salem Police Conduct Prostitution Sting

While this operation was aimed primarily at the Johns, police say other operations have focused on the prostitutes who provide the sexual favors.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police conducted a prostitution sting Thursday night, using undercover female peace officers as decoys. They arrested several men for soliciting prostitution during the operation.

Lt Dave Okada with Salem Police says the sting was aimed at "Johns" who stop to offer prostitutes money for sexual favors. "Once a John made contact with the undercover officer and probable cause to make an arrest was established, the suspect was arrested," he said.

Wind-Driven Brush Fire in Jefferson Burns Five Acres

More Victims Removed From Minneapolis Bridge Wreckage

U.S. Navy divers and Federal Bureau of Investigation have been helping local divers search for more victims.

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) - Searchers in Minneapolis have recovered three bodies from the site of last week's deadly highway bridge collapse. The death toll from the bridge collapse is now seven.

The bodies recovered today have not been identified. Identities have been established for five of the victims who have been recovered so far. 100 people were injured when the bridge came down.

A small microphone lowered into the chamber picked up no immediate sounds to indicate the men are still alive.

Officials said the lack of sound was not definitive, and they will continue today to work boring larger holes.
