Salem-Keizer Education Foundation Launches “Enrichment Academy”

OCF grant funds new summer, after-school programs.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Salem-Keizer Education Foundation hopes to help parents answer that question with a new educational opportunity for students of all needs and abilities.

The foundation’s “Enrichment Academy” will offer multiple levels of summer camp programs, starting this month, and after-school opportunities in the coming school year.

The programs will serve both struggling and high achieving students of all socio-economic backgrounds.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - American and Iraqi military forces broke up al Qaeda operations in the Diyala River valley during "Operation Ithaca," conducted July 12th, a U.S. military officer said today.

Twenty-nine al Qaeda operatives were killed and 23 others were captured during the operation.

The OSU Food Preservation/Safety hotline is now open and continues through Oct. 12th, operating Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (except holidays).

Reports say four women and three men, in their 70s and 80s, died in the quake, most of them after being crushed when buildings collapsed.

Reports out of Japan say over 13,000 people went to evacuation centers amid fears of mudslides and aftershocks.

One Year Later, Suspect Arrested in Death of Kimberly Powell

The suspect, Rocendo Rosales-Corona, fled to Mexico after the accident, but when he returned to Lodi, Calif. he was arrested.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - A year ago last Saturday, Kimberly McDaniel (Formerly Powell; her parents have requested she now be referred to by her maiden name) was jogging along NE Frontage Road in Dodson.

At about 11:00 AM she was hit by a westbound car which fled the scene leaving her severely injured and barley visible by the roadway.

Kimberly was transported by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital with life threatening injuries. She died on 7/15/06 at 9:02 PM with her family at her side.

Procession Honors Cpl. Kory Wiens and His Canine Friend Cooper

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Faith Evangelical Free Church, 2290 E Ellendale Ave., Dallas, Ore.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - The cremated remains of Cpl. Kory Wiens and his canine search dog, Cooper, arrived at the Corvallis Municipal Airport at around 11:15 AM on Monday.

Members of the Wiens family said they recognized familiar faces standing along the procession route as they drove by, and they are very appreciative of the support they have received from everyone.

Cpl. Kory Wiens, 20, of Independence, Ore. died July 6th of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Muhammad Sath, Iraq.
