Missing Oregon Pilot Identified

Search operations will continue through the weekend from the Aurora Airport with planes from Oregon and Washington Wings of the Civil Air Patrol.

(AURORA, Ore. ) - At the request of the family, the Oregon Civil Air Patrol is releasing the name and photograph of the missing pilot that has been the object of an intensive search operation out of the Aurora Airport since Sunday, July 9th.

65-year-old Courtland "Court" Mumford of Portland, a retired airline pilot with over 27,000 flight hours, was reported missing by family when he failed to return from a day of flying his newly purchased Piper Cub aircraft at the Aurora State Airport.

Gray Wolf Found Dead in Union County, Oregon

Any gray wolf which shows up in Oregon is listed as an endangered species under both state and federal law.

(ELGIN, Ore. ) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the discovery of a dead gray wolf in Union County, Oregon. The animal had been shot, and was recovered on May 25th, from a forested area north of Elgin.

Testing has confirmed that the animal was a mature female wolf, genetically related to the wolf population in Idaho, and that it died from a gunshot wound.

11-Year-Old Portland Girl Critically Injured in Crash Near Woodburn

After impact, both vehicles continued forward over several hundred feet before stopping.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - An 11-year old girl was critically injured Thursday morning when the truck she was a passenger in collided with the back of a flatbed semi-trailer slowing for other traffic northbound on Interstate 5 north of Woodburn.

At approximately 11:00 AM a commercial truck pulling a flatbed semi-trailer driven by Ronald Wilson, age 37, from Mulino, was northbound on Interstate near milepost 274 approaching the exit lane for truck traffic to pull into the northbound truck scales.

Field Fire South of Jefferson Burns 25 Acres

The fire apparently was started by a combine.

(JEFFERSON, Ore. ) - Jefferson firefighters, with the assistance of firefighters from Albany and Turner responded to another grass fire south of Jefferson on Shady Bend Rd. located in Linn County at 1:10 PM Thursday afternoon.

This is the same area where firefighters battled a four-alarm field fire that ended up burning 60 acres on Tuesday of this week.

Escaped Texas Longhorn Captured by Salem Police, Firefighters

After the steer was captured firefighters used water from a fire truck to help keep the steer cooled.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - An 8-year-old Texas Longhorn named Pastel escaped from the Marion County Fair at the Oregon State Fairgrounds.

Pastel and her 5-month-old bull calf escaped from the fairgrounds arena just before 2:00 PM Salem police said.

Salem police and firefighters assited in capturing the steer.

Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory of Two Fallen Soldiers

"Oregon will long remember these two soldiers who died valiantly for our country," said Kulongoski.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Friday and Saturday to honor two fallen soldiers.

Lance Cpl. Steven Stacy, 22, of Coos Bay, died in Karma, Iraq on July 5th.

Cpl. Michelle Ring, 24, died in Baghdad, Iraq on July 5th.

Operation Purple, Oregon 4-H Helping Youth in Military Families

The program was established for children of parents serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army Reserve, Coast Guard and National Guard.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - More than 100 children from military families throughout Oregon have begun converging on the Oregon 4-H Center in Salem this week to take part in "Operation Purple" – a special summer camp for kids separated from parents serving in United States military units deployed overseas.

Some 350 Oregon National Guard unit members are preparing to go to the Middle East. In the past few years Oregon has sent many of its National Guard units to help fight terrorism.

Oregon Soldier Dies Alongside His Canine Friend in Iraq

Cpl. Kory D. Wiens was named after his grandfather who was a canine handler during the Korean War.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Cpl. Kory D. Wiens, 20, of Independence, Ore. died July 6th of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Muhammad Sath, Iraq.

Wiens attended canine school at the 341st Training Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he met his partner and friend, a yellow Labrador Retriever named Cooper. Cooper was a specialized search dog trained to find firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Oregon Highway 20 Improvement Project Suspended

Putting the contract on hold will allow ODOT and YRC to jointly explore and pursue new and less expensive mitigation plans for the YRC-identified landslide areas.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - Following months of discussion, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Yaquina River Constructors, the prime contractor for the U.S. Highway 20 Pioneer Mountain-Eddyville improvement project, have agreed to enter into a “negotiated suspension” of the contract work on the 7-mile, eight-bridge initiative to straighten the Coast Range route between Corvallis and Newport.

Granite officials originally estimated the mitigation measures necessary to stabilize 11 significant landslide areas within the project would cost approximately $61 million, of which about $27.5 million was estimated for overhead during a two-year delay.

Wanted Wyoming Fugitive Captured by Oregon State Police

The suspect, Ronald Goshorn, was wanted on a felony warrant out of Wyoming for Parole Violation following a Kidnapping conviction.

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - A wanted fugitive from Wyoming who is a suspect in an Aurora, Oregon burglary and car theft was arrested Wednesday morning by an Oregon State Police in the La Grande area when the stolen vehicle was spotted after an ‘Attempt to Locate' broadcast.

At 7:47 AM, Marion County Sheriff's Office issued an officer safety 'All Points Bulletin' teletype in Oregon regarding a wanted fugitive out of Wyoming believed to be driving a stolen 1979 Pontiac Firebird.
