Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory of Oregon Soldier

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Governor Ted Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff throughout Oregon on Sunday in honor of Lance Corporal Garcia-Schill.

“The death of Lance Corporal Garcia-Schill is a deep loss to his community and our entire state,” said Governor Kulongoski.

72-Year-Old Woman Injured in Pit Bull Attack

Deputies discovered that the Pit Bulls owner was not home, and his children accidentally let it out of the house.

(ALOHA, Ore. ) - Washington County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 2700 block of SW 216th Avenue in Aloha Friday night after several 911 calls were received reporting that a 72-year-old woman and her small dog were being attacked by a Pit Bull.

Deputies said the woman was attacked by a nine month old, 50 pound, Pit Bull.

She told deputies she was walking her small dog along SW 216th Avenue when a Pit Bull came running toward her and her dog.

Coast Guard Searching Oregon Coast for Teen Swept Out to Sea

Dispatchers notified Coast Guard Air Facility North Bend that two boys had been swept out to sea and were in need of assistance at approximately 5:00 PM.

(NESKOWIN, Ore. ) - Coast Guard units are searching the Oregon coast near Neskowin, Ore., for signs of a teenaged boy who was swept out to sea Friday afternoon.

An HH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility North Bend, the crew of a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Depoe Bay and local fire department crews are searching the waters near Nestucca Beach for signs of the missing boy.

After Six Days, Still No Sign of Missing Oregon Pilot

The CAP, which has 8 planes and 35 personnel involved in the search Friday, expects to ramp up their search efforts over the weekend.

(AURORA, Ore. ) - The Oregon CAP continues to focus it's search efforts for missing pilot, Courtland Mumford, 65, of Portland on the Oregon Coastal area.

"The radar return that we received yesterday covers a significant portion of the Oregon Coastal area," said Lt Col. Pete Andersen, CAP Incident Commander for the CAP's search efforts.

Oregon AG Files Suit Against LA Weight Loss

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers Friday filed a lawsuit against LA Weight Loss Franchise Company (LA Weight Loss) and an Oregon franchisee alleging false and misleading representations about the costs, fees, products, and benefits associated with the program.

The lawsuit alleges that LA Weight Loss and its franchisee violated Oregon’s Unlawful Trade Practices Act (UTPA) by advertising that the program could be purchased for only $9 a week when, in fact, consumers were required to pay hundreds of dollars for the entire program at the time of enrollment.

Salem Woman Killed in Single Vehicle Accident

Police say they were no signs of alcohol and the victim was not wearing a seat belt.

(SCIO, Ore. ) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that his deputies are investigating a fatal single vehicle motor vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning at approximately 5:30 A.M.

The crash happened on Stayton-Scio Drive near River Road which is about 7 miles Northeast of Scio.

The vehicle involved was a 2003 Cadillac Escalade which was operated by 51-year-old Terri Welfringer from Salem.

Oregon Father Leaves Two Children in Sweltering Mini-Van

The vehicle's interior temperature was recorded by fire personnel at 97 degrees Fahrenheit.

(WILSONVILLE, Ore. ) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of two children left unattended inside an automobile in the sweltering parking lot of large electronics store in Wilsonville on Friday.

The vehicle had been sealed tight with the windows rolled-up and the doors locked.

Once it was opened, fire personnel examined the two children, who were declared very warm -- with their hair matted from profuse perspiration.

Governor Issues State of Emergency Due to Threat of Forest Fires

Over the past few days, thunderstorms have descended upon southwestern Oregon and the Klamath Falls area, triggering dozens of lightning-caused fires.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Due to the critical forest fire danger situation facing many parts of the state, Governor Ted Kulongoski has declared a state of emergency and authorized the use of three National Guard helicopters and aviation assets to help respond to the situation.

The declaration also allows use of National Guard personnel and equipment to prevent or alleviate damage from the fires.

Milwaukie, Oregon Woman Arrested on Six Counts of Arson

Mary Jane Scott was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail with bail set at $300,000.

(MILWAUKIE, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police Arson & Explosives Section detectives arrested a Milwaukie-area woman Thursday afternoon on six counts of Arson in the First Degree related to an investigation of a townhouse fire May 23rd at 17814 SE Addie Road in Milwaukie.

At 12:35 PM, Mary Jane Scott, age 46, was arrested without incident at her home in Milwaukie.

The fire caused extensive damage to two units, one of which was next door and was occupied by two adults and two children who escaped their unit.

Charles and Nellie King died within 12 hours of one another in their home in Morro Bay, California. Charles was 90, Nellie was 84.
