Oregon`s Unemployment Rate Dips to 5 Percent

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in both April and May.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Oregon’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in May compared with 5.1 percent in April.

The May unemployment rate was the lowest since April 2000, when the rate was also 5.0 percent.

In May, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 4,600, following a gain of 5,200 in April.

Oregon State CWS Tickets Go on Sale Tuesday Morning

Stabbing Suspect Caught in California (UPDATED

Fresno Police in California arrested fugitive Jason Earl Nelson at approximately 1:00 AM July 5th, on attempted-murder charges.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a stabbing in Wilsonville.

The incident involves a 54-year old male victim; who is believed to have been stabbed by a relative, identified as Jason Earl Nelson who is now in custody.

NASA Adds Two Days, Fourth Spacewalk to Shuttle Mission

(CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.) - During a post-mission management briefing held 8:00 PM EDT Monday, John Shannon, chair of the Mission Management Team, announced NASA will extend the Atlantis mission two extra days and add a fourth spacewalk to the mission.

Mission Specialists Jim Reilly and John “Danny” Olivas continue to work outside the International Space Station.

They are performing tasks to activate the Starboard 3 and 4 (S3/S4) truss segment that was attached to the station earlier today.

Salem Police Ask for Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspects

They are described as three white males, either in their late teens or early twenties.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police say three suspects entered the Circle K at 2904 12th St SE in Salem, May 30th at 1:27 AM.

They say the store clerk confronted the three suspects attempting to steal beer, and became the victim of assault.

Thurston Shooter Kip Kinkel Transferred to Oregon State Prison

Oregon Department of Corrections places him at Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem.

(SALEM, Ore.) - On May 20th, 1998, the nation reeled over the news that a student Kipland "Kip" Kinkel killed his parents, two of his classmates at Thurston High, and shot and wounded 25 of his classmates.

Kinkel was transferred today to Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem from the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn.

Three U.S. Soldiers Dead, Six Injured in Car Bomb Attack

The names of the dead and wounded are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed and six were wounded when a suicide car bomb struck the checkpoint they were manning south of Baghdad Sunday.

An Iraqi interpreter also was wounded in the attack, which destroyed part of a highway overpass near Mahmoudiya.

The wounded were evacuated to coalition medical facilities for treatment.
