Oregon Power Bills Going Up, Way Up

A typical PGE residential bill will go up by $10.66 a month.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The ripple effect of a much-criticized federal appeals court ruling hit home Wednesday for residential and small-farm customers of Portland General Electric, PacifiCorp and Idaho Power when the Oregon Public Utility Commission reluctantly approved a rate hike to take effect on customers’ bills Friday, June 1st.

Rates for PGE and PacifiCorp residential and small farm customers will increase by 13% effective June 1st.

The suspension of payments will cost Oregon customers $351,000 a day or $128 million a year.

Forest Service Ocean-View Homes for Sale Along Oregon Coast

(WALDPORT, Ore. ) - Three homes on a 2.81 acre parcel of land with ocean view adjacent to the Central Oregon Coast Ranger District-Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area office in Waldport are for sale.

These homes were used as temporary housing for Siuslaw National Forest employees.

Two open houses scheduled for June 12th and 16th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM will allow for interior viewing of the houses.

Oregon Coast Landmark Dory Cove Re-Opens with New Name

On the evening of November 29th, 2006 a two alarm fire raced through and destroyed the Dory Cove Restaurant.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - The Dory Cove, a famous Oregon coast landmark that was destroyed by a fire last year, is back with a new name and a new location.

The owners say the restaurant's famous food and clam chowder remains unchanged.

The family-owned and operated business was originally located at 5819 Logan Road, had been serving Lincoln City residents and coastal visitors for more than 33 years, creating traditions for thousands of Oregon residents.

Four Earthquakes Shake Southern Oregon Wednesday

No damage or injuries were reported.

(LAKEVIEW, Ore.) - A series of small earthquakes shook southern Oregon Wednesday.

The first, a magnitude 2.6, occurred at 2:32 PM, and was centered 7 miles SE of Lakeview. The quake had a depth of 2.1 miles.

The second, a magnitude 3.0, occurred at 6:56 PM, and was centered 15 miles SSW of Lakeview. The quake had a depth of 20.8 miles. The most recent quake, a magnitude 2.5, struck at 9:57 PM, and was centered 20 miles SSW of Lakeview. It had a depth of 20 miles.

Seven Killed in NATO Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan (VIDEO)

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - Five Americans and two other soldiers were killed when a NATO Chinook helicopter was shot down in southern Afghanistan Wednesday.

The Taliban claimed credit for shooting it down. Ambushed troops eventually called for an air strike to eliminate the threat, NATO said.

Final U.S. Troop Surge Now in Iraq

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - The fifth and final brigade of the troop surge has arrived in Baghdad and should be fully operational by mid-July, the deputy director for operations on the Joint Staff said today.

“We are starting to see a shift in momentum that comes with having additional forces on the ground,” Army Brig. Gen. Perry Wiggins told Pentagon reporters in a news conference.

Troops will clamp down on Baghdad’s northern and southern belts -- areas where insurgents “have had the opportunity to sit back and plan some of these attacks,” Wiggins said.

Train Crashes Into Fertilizer Truck North of Keizer

Marion County Fire District Spokesman Bob Jung says cleanup work is continuing at this time. River Road N. is closed while that work continues.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Nobody was hurt today when a freight train hit the back of a fertilizer truck that was making its way over the tracks at River Road N. and Brooklake Road at 8:40 AM this morning.

Bob Jung with the Marion County Fire District says the train struck the rear trailer of the fertilizer truck which was not carrying any hazardous materials, instead loaded with inert fertilizer.
