Salem Woman Critically Injured in Two Car Crash

Investigators say they do not believe that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Firefighters had to extricate a Salem woman from the wreckage of her car today after she was seriously injured in a high speed crash north of Keizer..

Deputies responded to the intersection of River Rd N and Clear Lake Rd N. at 12:30 PM. They say a woman failed a stop sign and was struck in the driver's door, receiving serious injuries.

Salem Police Ask for Public Help in Identifying Bank Robbery Suspect

Police say it appears to be the same suspect who robbed the OSU Federal Credit Union in Keizer on March 23rd.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police are asking for assistance from the public in identifying the suspect in a bank robbery that happened at the First Tech Credit Union on Lancaster Dr NE last Thursday.

He is described as a Black male adult, 25-35 years old, 6'02"-6'03", 200-230 pounds. He also is reported to have had an unshaven face.

Report: Tobacco Companies Spent over $135 Million to Market Products to Kids in Oregon in 2005

In 2005, the latest year in the report, the tobacco companies spent $13.4 billion on marketing nationwide -- $36.6 million a day.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Tobacco companies spent a massive $135.9 million on marketing in Oregon in 2005, with most of it spent on marketing in retail stores that is effective at encouraging kids to smoke, according to a report released today by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

In Oregon, where 17.0 percent of high school students smoke, tobacco use kills 5,000 residents and costs the state $1.11 billion in health care bills.

New Scam Targets U.S. Military Spouses

The Red Cross says it is hard to determine how many spouses have been targeted by this scam so far.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The American Red Cross is warning military spouses about a new identity-theft scam that targets family members of deployed troops.

The Red Cross was alerted of the scam earlier this month, said Devorah Goldburg of the Red Cross.

The scam involves a person with an American accent calling a military spouse, identifying herself as a representative of the Red Cross, and telling the spouse that her husband was hurt in Iraq and was medically evacuated to Germany.

West Albany High School Senior Killed After Being Struck by Pickup

The driver, who was not injured in the crash, was identified as 53-year-old Randy Hillyer of Jefferson.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - On Wednesday, at approximately 7:59 PM, a male pedestrian was crossing southeast Santiam Road near Pacific Boulevard and was struck and killed by a small pickup.

The pedestrian was identified as 17-year-old Salvador Alcantar Sanchez.

Salvador was a senior at West Albany High School and was returning home from the Heritage Mall area when he was struck by the vehicle.

Police Arrest Sandy Woman for Trying to Mail Drugs into Multnomah County Jail

The woman has previous convictions for Theft First Degree, and Theft Second Degree.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - On Wednesday, a Multnomah County Inverness Jail Deputy notified the assigned Corrections Division Detective that a suspicious letter had been intercepted during mail inspection.

The letter, addressed to inmate Bernard Roselle, was discovered to have suspicious matter hidden within that was suspected to be Marijuana and Methamphetamine.

Upon examination the detective discovered the letter had a return name and address to an address in NE Portland that did not exist.

Rescuers Locate Missing Motorcyclist that Fell off Oregon Coast Cliff

The man was able to honk his motorcycle horn to pinpoint his location that was not visible unless someone stood on the edge of the road.

The creative use of sirens and cell phone communications helped guide police and fire personnel to the injured man who was unaware of his exact location.
