Health Advisory Lifted at Newport`s Nye Beach

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - The advisory was issued on Thursday, May 10th, after water samples at Nye beach showed higher-than-normal levels of enterococcus, a type of fecal bacteria, in the marine water. Subsequent testing showed the contamination had subsided and the waters did not pose a higher-than-normal risk associated with water-contact activities.

State officials encourage recreational activities at all Oregon beaches, suggesting only that water contact be avoided when advisories are in effect.

Rescuers Growing Desperate to Save Injured Humpback Whales

Wildlife experts are worried about the long-term health of the animals.

(SACRAMENTO, Calif. ) - Biologists on Friday are once again relying on whale sounds in an attempt to lure two injured humpback whales out of the deep water shipping channel in West Sacramento and back to the ocean.

The whales entered the canal leading out of the Port of Sacramento and swam about 200 yards but then returned to the turning basin.

The wayward whales are in the waters of the Port of Sacramento after making their way about 90 miles through San Francisco Bay and up the Sacramento River.

Eugene Woman Faces Long List of Charges Following Rollover Crash

The woman was transported to Yamhill County Jail for DUII processing then taken to a local hospital for an examination of possible injuries related to the crash.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - A Eugene-area woman was arrested Thursday night for DUII and other charges after she was involved in a rollover crash on Highway 99W then drove her wrecked car about 1/2 mile causing pavement damage before she was stopped.

At approximately 9:40 PM a 2003 Toyota Corolla driven by 22-year-old Stefani Talbot, from Eugene, was involved in a rollover crash on Highway 99W near SE Yampo Road in Polk County.

Following the crash, Talbot then drove north about 1/2 mile on Highway 99W into Yamhill County on flat tires and bent axles.

Oregon State Police Rescue Man Clinging to River Buoy

The man reportedly had a core body temperature of 92 degrees upon is arrival at the hospital.

(MILWAUKIE, Ore. ) - A Tualatin man was rescued Thursday afternoon by Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife officers and a US Fisheries agent when they spotted the exhausted, hypothermic man attempting to cling to a buoy in the middle of the Willamette River near Elk Rock Island in the Milwaukie-area.

At approximately 12:25 PM OSP Sergent Chris Allori, Senior Trooper Roger Edwards and a US fisheries agent were conducting a routine fisheries patrol on the Willamette River near Elk Rock Island.

While operating the boat upstream, Sergeant Allori spotted a man in the water who appeared to be trying to grab ahold of a buoy in the middle of the river.

Two Iraqi ABC News Journalists Killed in Iraq

The two were traveling home when they were stopped by two cars full of gunmen and forced to exit their car.

(NEW YORK) - Two Iraqi ABC News broadcast journalists were killed in Iraq, ABC News President David Westin said this morning.

33-year-old Cameraman Alaa Uldeen Aziz, and 26-year-old soundman Saif Laith Yousuf, were returning home from work at the ABC News Baghdad bureau yesterday afternoon when their car was reportedly ambushed and they were killed by unknown assailants.

(TOUTLE, Wash.) - At 8:32 AM Sunday morning, May 18th, 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted.

Shaken by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, the north face of this tall symmetrical mountain collapsed in a massive rock debris avalanche.

Fifty-seven people were killed; and 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles of railways and 185 miles of highway were destroyed.

Two Vehicle Crash Sends Four to the Hospital

No word yet if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

(TURNER, Ore. ) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that sent four people to the hospital, including a 3-year-old child.

Although the investigation is continuing, it appears a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity, driven by 25-year-old Malinda Haskins collided with a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Pickup driven by 21-year-old Paul Bender.

A 3-year-old occupant of the Celebrity was transported to Salem Hospital then life flighted to OHSU.

(DEARBORN, Mich.) - A 28-year old Dearborn, Michigan police officer named Edward Sanchez, called 911 and said he and his wife were "dying from a marijuana brownie overdose."

It turns out the weed was confiscated from criminal suspects, then stolen from his police vehicle, and that is when this sadly comical story just starts to get traction.

Dalton’s Law Gains Important Senate Support

Two other Senators—Avel Gordly, (I-Portland) and Senate Majority Leader Kate Brown, (D-Portland) have also signed on as co-sponsors.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Representative Donna Nelson (R-McMinnville) is excited to see important Senate support for House Bill 3176, Dalton’s Law. House Bill 3176 would allow law enforcement officers to obtain vehicle location information from companies such as On-Star and LoJack to help find missing persons.

It is named in honor of the late Dalton Robertson, a friend of Representative Nelson, who tragically passed away in 2005 after disappearing in his brand new car equipped with an anti-theft vehicle-location device. Even though a missing persons report had been filed, police were unable to use the device to find the vehicle without the owner’s consent.
