(PORTLAND, Ore.) - On May 4th, at 9:40 PM, Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives were called to the 5700 block of North Kerby Avenue after Northeast Precinct officers found the body of 51-year-old Frank Johnson.

During the subsequent investigation, detectives concluded that 48-year-old David Wayne French jumped from the third story window of the victim’s apartment as officers were forcing open the front door to help the victim.

In light of recent outbreaks of violence on college campuses and schools, Attorney General Myers, under the auspices of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), will work with colleagues on the Task Force on School Safety to identify legal and policy barriers to ensuring students safe learning environments.

75 Percent of Commercial Trucks Fail ODOT Inspection

(CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. ) - More than 75 percent of commercial vehicles inspected by Oregon Department of Transportation Motor Carrier enforcement officers during a six-hour inspection blitz Wednesday morning were placed out of service with safety violations.

Officers completed 55 inspections during the half-day event at the Cascade Locks and Wyeth weigh stations along Interstate 84 in the Columbia Gorge; 42 vehicles (76 percent) were placed out of service for mechanical violations such as improper tire inflation, tire tread problems and other safety hazards.

(DUNDEE, Ore. ) - Residents of the Yamhill County community of Dundee are a major step closer to having a real choice for their television services, thanks to a newly approved agreement authorizing Verizon to offer its FiOS TV service, delivered over the most advanced fiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.

In a unanimous vote, the Dundee City Council granted a video franchise to Verizon Tuesday night, paving the way for video choice for local citizens.

In addition to Dundee, Verizon has been granted video franchises by the city of Newberg and 10 cities in Washington County, as well as by Washington County itself.

Prisoner Elbow Grease Scrubs Out Gresham Graffiti

Inmate Work Crews visited and scrubbed clean approximately 70 sites in the SW Gresham area today.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Inmate Work Crews resumed removing graffiti from public property on Powell between 182nd to 174th Avenues and on Division from 174th to 182nd.

The program, which began yesterday, was initiated after Multnomah County Sheriff Bernie Giusto approached Gresham city officials with an offer to provide MCSO Inmate Work Crews at no cost.

Suspect Sought in Taco Time Armed Robbery

None of the employees were injured by the gunman.

(VENETA, Ore. ) - The Lane County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a suspect who robbed the Veneta, Oregon Taco Time Wednesday night at gunpoint.

An employee came to the counter after hearing the till open and was challenged by a man holding a black handgun.

The suspect ordered the employee to the back of the store where the dishwasher observed what was occurring.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow on a measure prohibiting one of the most abusive practices in factory farming: confining breeding pigs in metal gestation crates so small the animals can’t turn around for months on end.

The Oregon State Senate recently passed the bill, SB 694, by an overwhelming vote. The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization with more than 10 million supporters, urged the committee to approve the important measure.

Children’s Farm Home Sued for Alleged Child Abuse Acts of Former Executive Director

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A Salem man has filed a $5 million childhood sexual abuse suit in Multnomah County against the Children’s Farm Home and its parent corporation, Trillium Family Services, for abuse he says he suffered as a boy in the years 1977-79 at the hands of William “Hank” Dufort, former Executive Director of the Home.

The man alleges he was abused “countless” times over the three years. The man, now 45-years old, alleges that as a result of the abuse he experienced significant emotional and psychological damage, according to attorney Kelly Clark of Portland, who filed the suit.

Oregon Police Officers Credited for Saving Young Child Bitten by Rattlesnake

The child is in stable condition today at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.

(MONUMENT, Ore. ) - Quick response efforts by police and medical responders were credited with saving the life of a 3 1/2 year old child after the child was bitten by a rattlesnake Tuesday afternoon near Monument in Grant County.

At approximately 5:45 PM, Grant County 9-1-1 dispatch contacted Oregon State Police Trooper Cody Weaver requesting an emergency relay of snakebite venom for a child that was being transported to Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day.

The OSP trooper met a Harney County deputy sheriff at the county line and transported the venom.
