Mission Mill Museum Recognizes Volunteers for Outstanding Accomplishments

Among the honorees were The 2006 museum tour guides, Max Suko, Marilyn Whelan, Claire Fuller, Holly Miles, Jyl McCormick, Sharon Whitwer, Tobbi Oakes, Gayle Meaders, Norma Gekakis, Betty Corey, Maggie Johnson, Bob Kovarik and Alton May.

Linda Langham with the Mission Mill says the volunteers were recognized for outstanding ensemble performance. "This special group of people donate hundreds of hours each year to help kids and adults in our community learn more about Salem history."

Brooke Wilberger Murder Suspect Faces New Charges in Oregon

Brooke Wilberger disappeared in 2004.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - A new indictment has been brought against Joel Patrick Courtney, a suspect in the abduction and murder of college student Brooke Wilberger who disappeared from a Corvallis apartment complex May 24th, 2004.

Courtney faces new charges, according to a New Mexico jail Web site. He remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., awaiting trial for kidnapping and rape charges.

State Warns Consumers about Sweepstakes Scam

Letters instruct “winners” to cash checks and send money to redeem their prize.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregonians should beware of an ongoing, national scam involving a fictitious sweepstakes, the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services and Department of Justice warned today.

People in Oregon and across the country have received letters from Woodland Securities Group in New Jersey informing them they have won $100,000.

The package includes a check from the Arizona Public Service Company made out to the recipient of the letter for about $3,600, to pay for state surcharges on the winnings.

$1 Coin Featuring President John Adams Heads Into Circulation Nationwide Today

It is the first time the United States has featured President Adams on a coin.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Millions of new John Adams Presidential $1 Coins are heading to the Nation’s banks and financial institutions.

The United States Mint is marking the occasion with a ceremonial launch and coin exchange in John Adams’ birthplace of Quincy, Massachusetts, on Tuesday.

Those who cannot travel to Quincy may obtain John Adams Presidential $1 Coins at most banks and financial institutions throughout the country, starting today.

Oregon Officers Honored at Exchange Club Event (VIDEO)

The people honored were from local law enforcement agencies, the 911 center and the District Attorney's office.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Six individuals were recognized at the Exchange Clubs of Salem's annual Officer/Dispatcher/DDA of The Year luncheon held Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 from noon to 1:00 PM in Salem. Each honoree was presented with a plaque commemorating the outstanding contributions they have made to the community and their agency.

The event is normally hosted by Marion County Sheriff Raul Ramirez, who is recovering at this time from heart bypass surgery. Marion County District Attorney Walt Beglau who presented the award on behalf of his agency, said he had just visited the Sheriff, who is recovering well.

The government says it stems from soldiers using too much bandwidth and they also call it a security compromise. But many soldiers overseas say it is nothing more than an attempt to restrict information.

Senate Passes Bill to Require Employee Health Insurance Birth Control Coverage

House Bill 2700 will now move to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Oregon Senate today passed House Bill 2700, legislation that will require birth control coverage in employee health insurance plans that offer prescription drug coverage and provide access to emergency contraception in the emergency room for women who are victims of sexual assault.
