Salem Man Arrested for Rape of 12-Year-Old Girl

The girl had been previously reported as a runaway out of Yamhill County.

(SALEM) - At about 7:30 AM on Monday, Marion County Sheriff's Deputies received a call to 147 49th Ave SE in Salem that a 12-year-old Dayton girl was at that address.

When deputies arrived they found the girl at the home.

She told investigators that she had met the man who lives at that address, 20-year-old Delfino Pacheco-Martinez, approximately one month prior in the arcade at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City where they exchanged phone numbers.

(CANBY, Ore.) - A man killed last Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train as he walked across the tracks in front the southbound train has been positively identified.

The victim's name is being released but investigators and the medical examiner's office have not been able to identify or locate next of kin.

(SEATTLE) - A large number of parents are ignoring warnings from the American Academy of Pediatrics and are allowing their very young children to watch television, DVDs or videos so that by 3 months of age 40 percent of infants are regular viewers.

That number jumps to 90 percent of 2-year-olds, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute.

The study is the first to look at the trajectory of media viewing in the first two years of life and to explore the content of what is being watched.

Five Killed in Navy Helicopter Crash in Nevada

The helicopter, assigned to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron 7 based in Jacksonville, Fla., was conducting a routine training mission from NAS Fallon.

(AUSTIN, Nev.) - All five crew members of a Navy SH-60F Seahawk helicopter died Monday in a crash about 10 miles west of Austin, Nev.

Officials are investigating the cause of the accident.

Press reports indicate the helicopter may have hit power lines in the area.

Chemeketa Car Show to Raise Funds for Fire Victims Fund

Last year more than 90 vehicles were entered in the show.

(SALEM) - For 27 years, Chemeketa Community College's Building Inspection program has sponsored the Stan Davey Classic Auto Show to raise money for the Dislocated Residential Fire Victims' Fund of Marion County Fire Department District #1.

Bark Mulches Sold in Oregon Could Pose Health Risk

The low-cost mulch was promoted as a bark mulch substitute for its low flammability and weed control properties.

(PORTLAND ) - Since late 2000, bark mulches composed of old asphalt roofing wastes have been produced and sold in the Portland and Eugene/Springfield areas.

The material was called “Budget Bark” in the Portland area and “No Spark Bark” in Eugene/Springfield.

In 2004, DEQ became concerned about soil and groundwater contamination from application of these mulches, and analyzed samples of the products. Results showed levels of contaminants in quantities of concern for human health and aquatic life.

Oregon Town’s Only Grocery Store Destroyed by Fire

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(TRIANGLE LAKE, Ore. ) - Residents of the small Oregon town of Triangle Lake, are hoping to re-build the towns only grocery store that was destroyed by a weekend fire.

Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at Lakeview Grocery just after 12:45 AM on Sunday.

The store’s owners, and local residents say they are devastated by the fire, which served as the heart of the small community of some 800 residents.
