Woman Hits Sheriff’s Patrol Car, Flees, Tracked Down

The driver was cited and released for Failure to perform the Duties of a Driver (property damage).

(WALDPORT, Ore. ) - On Saturday, at about 8:06 PM, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Gulbranson had parked his patrol vehicle in the parking lot of Ray's Food place in Waldport, Oregon.

As he was entering the store, a witness approached Deputy Gulbranson and told him that a female in a white Chevrolet truck had just struck his patrol vehicle and left the scene.

Deputy Gulbranson located the vehicle at the intersection of Cedar and Highway 34.

Astronomers Announce Monstrous, Brightest Supernova

University of Texas graduate student Robert Quimby first observed the supernova on Sept. 18th, 2006 in the galaxy NGC 1260, located in the constellation Perseus.

(BERKELEY, Calif. ) - An exploding star first observed last September is the largest and most luminous supernova ever seen, according to University of California, Berkeley, astronomers, and may be the first example of a type of massive exploding star rare today but probably common in the very early universe.

UC Berkeley post-doctoral fellows Nathan Smith and David Pooley estimate the star's mass at between 100 and 200 times that of the sun.

600 Plants Stolen from Oregon Nursery

The estimated value of the stolen trees is about $5000.

(AURORA, Ore. ) - At about 9:30 AM this morning deputies recieved a call from Loy Russell, owner of Russell's Nursery Inc, who reported that someone had taken 600 plants from one of the greenhouses at his nursery located at 22241 Boones Ferry Rd NE, Aurora.

The plants were assorted varieties of grafted Japanese Maple trees ranging in size from about 16" to as tall as 28". The trees had either green or purple leaves.

Man Wanted by Sheriff`s Deputies Arrested by Salem Police

Marion County Sheriff's Office Detectives have been seeking the whereabouts of William Farris since Sunday, April 22nd.

(SALEM) - Just before 10:00 AM on Sunday, Salem Police Officers arrested 29-year-old William Farris, during a hit and run investigation with connections to an ongoing Sheriff's Office investigations.

Farris was arrested by Salem PD after he had apparently been driving a stolen car when he crashed into a pole near Church and E St in Salem.

After the crash Farris ran from the car but was captured nearby a short time later.

Jesse Courtney has been pestering his mother by complaining about the noise and constant earache. The sounds remained a mystery until the doctors removed the spiders, one of which was still alive.

Amber Alert Cancelled for 6-Year Old Missouri Girl

The girl was located safely.

(AMSTERDAM, Mo.) - The Bates County Sheriff and the State of Missouri issued an Amber Alert today after a child was apparently abducted by her mother, Rachel Peace, who has made threats in the past to harm herself and her children. The event occurred in Amsterdam Missouri.

Meat from Hogs, Chickens Fed with Contaminated Feed Deemed Safe

Scraps of contaminated pet food that contained only low levels of melamine were distributed to farms in a limited number of states and added to the feed consumed by swine and poultry.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - There is very low risk to human health from consuming meat from hogs and chickens known to have been fed animal feed supplemented with pet food scraps that contained melamine and melamine-related compounds, according to an assessment conducted by scientists from five federal agencies.

In the most extreme risk assessment scenario, when scientists assumed that all the solid food a person consumes in an entire day was contaminated with melamine at the levels observed in animals fed contaminated feed, the potential exposure was about 2,500 times lower than the dose considered safe.

In other words, it was well below any level of public health concern.
