Vegas Killing Reminiscent of Mob Days

Police in Las Vegas are working with the FBI on the case. They say the 4:00 AM explosion was not a terrorist act, they say it is being investigated as a single murder.

(LAS VEGAS, Nv.) - An apparent car bomb death at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas sounds like a blast from the past for some residents in this Nevada gambling town, steeped in a history of mob "hits" and crime, greed and gambling.

The device was left on a car in the Luxor casino parking garage. It exploded early Monday killing a Luxor employee who police have not yet identified.

Senate Passes Legislation to Support Breastfeeding in the Workplace

Bill will mean support for women employees who choose to breastfeed their babies.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Senate today has passed House Bill 2372, carried by Senator Ginny Burdick (D-Portland/Tigard) on a 28-1 vote. The bill requires employers of 25 or more employees to provide a mother unpaid time and a private place to express milk every four hours during the work day. House Bill 2372 does provide an exception for business if doing so would cause hardship on business operations.

"This important public health legislation will make a real difference in the lives of Oregon babies and their mothers," said Senator Ginny Burdick (D-Portland), a strong supporter of working mothers in Oregon. “We have worked a long time for this legislation that will now benefit families all across Oregon."

Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen Oregon Soldier

Flags to be lowered Tuesday in honor of Army Sgt. Michael Louis Vaughan.

(SALEM) - Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff on Tuesday in memory of Army Sgt. Michael Louis Vaughan.

Vaughan, 20, of Otis, died Monday, April 23rd, 2007, in As Sadah, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, in Fort Bragg, N.C.

“The sacrifices Vaughan made for our state and for our country will never be forgotten,” said Governor Kulongoski. “During this time of pain, Sergeant Vaughan’s memory is in our hearts and his family, friends and community are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Oregon Inmates Use Prosthesis to Smuggle Tobacco into Jail

Tobacco was banished from the Yamhill County Jail in 1991.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Four people are accused of trying to smuggle chewing tobacco into the Yamhill County Jail by hiding it in a prosthetic leg.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree says an inmate faked a fall and damage to the leg, and a former inmate picked it up for repair.

Deputies said when the leg came back, they found about two cans worth of chewing tobacco sealed in foil and hidden in a hollow section.

Four Missing Oregon Teens Found Alive

Police say the rafters are in good shape, however they are a little cold and hungry.

(TROUTDALE, Ore. ) - Multnomah County Search and Rescue teams searching the Sandy River near Lewis and Clark State Park this morning for four teens who went missing after a rafting trip Sunday afternoon have been found safe.

Sheriff’s Deputies say the four, two men and two women, all 19. began their trip from Dodge Park around noon Sunday. The river is extremely cold and full of debris.

They had trouble in some river rapids, and stopped for the night along the riverbank.

University of Oregon Business Complex Closed after Bomb Threat

The business complex will reopen at 7:00 AM on Tuesday.

(EUGENE) - The University of Oregon has canceled all of Monday’s classes and activities in the Lillis Business Complex after receiving a bomb threat Saturday.

On Saturday, a student reported finding a note written on a bathroom wall that said an explosive device would be detonated Monday.

Eugene police searched the building, and no device was found.

River Search Resumes for Four Missing Oregon Teens

(TROUTDALE, Ore. ) - Multnomah County Search and Rescue teams will continue searching the Sandy River near Lewis and Clark State Park for four teens who went missing after a rafting trip Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff’s Deputies say the four, two men and two women, all 19, began their trip from Dodge Park. The river is extremely cold and full of debris police said.

Search crews hope to get help later today from a U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter based in Astoria.

Eagles Fly From Japan to Portland; F-15 C and D Models Enter 142nd Fighter Wing Inventory

These aircraft will eventually replace all of the Wing's current A and B models, which are some of the oldest F-15's in the Air Force inventory.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The 142nd Fighter Wing has defended the skies of the Pacific Northwest for decades, and the workhorse for many of those years has been the A and B variants of the F-15.

These venerable yet venerated airframes, however, will yield their command of the skies to F-15 C and D models starting this month.

Colonel Steve Gregg, the 142nd FW Commander, will bring the first of two F-15 Cs from Kadena Air Base, Japan to the Portland Air National Guard Base on May 5. Additional aircraft will follow on from Kadena as well as other Air Force Bases in the U.S. The conversion to the F-15 C and D models will take approximately 18 months.
