Albany, Oregon Gatorade Plant on Hold

Construction began in mid-April to connect the city’s water and sewer system to the PepsiCo site.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - The City of Albany, Linn County, the Albany-Millersburg Economic Development Corporation, the Oregon Departments of Economic and Community Development and Transportation, and PepsiCo have announced an adjustment in the planned Gatorade production and packaging plant in Southwest Albany.

PepsiCo is working to complete a comprehensive analysis of its capacity needs by September.

After reviewing the study, PepsiCo and Albany officials will work together to redefine construction plans.

Faulty Furnace Caused Apartment Fire in Keizer

An apartment fire displaced at least one Keizer resident Saturday afternoon.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Fire District crews responded to the report of an apartment fire at 1:28 PM Saturday, at 786 Unit C Lockhaven Drive NE in Keizer.

Upon arriving on the scene, crews say they observed smoke coming from the second floor of one of the apartment units.

"Callers to 9-1-1 reported seeing smoke coming from under one of the buildings that make up Lockhaven Hills Estates," Keizer Fire Spokesman Jim Trett said.

Severe Forest Fire Season Predicted for Western U.S.

In the Pacific Northwest, portions of southern Oregon, northeastern Oregon and eastern Washington are projected to have some significant fires.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - The newest forecasts of summer drought and fire by researchers at Oregon State University and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service suggest the West is in for a fairly severe fire season, brought on by widespread drought conditions and huge fuel buildups in western forests and rangelands.

Among the areas of greatest fire risk, the latest analysis shows, are much of northern California; southern Arizona and New Mexico; and the Great Basin, especially some hot spots in eastern Idaho and southwestern Wyoming.

Seven Die in Massive Kansas Tornado

(GREENSBURG, Kansas) - A massive tornado swept through Greensburg, Kansas, killing at least least seven people and destroying up to 90 percent of a small town in southern Kansas.

In addition to the seven people killed, around 60 people were injured, and more than a dozen of those injuries were serious.

Plane Crash Near Chiloquin Injures Three

According to witnesses, the plane made a left turn to the west and disappeared from sight. Minutes later, the deputy in the area received the call of the downed aircraft.

(CHILOQUIN, Ore.) - A pilot and three passengers survived an airplane crash Friday in a treeline adjacent to the Chiloquin Airport. The pilot and his wife, Ron and Susan Gullickson, are from Battle Ground Washington. Their son Trevor Gullickson and a family friend named Jonathan McGinley are from Portland.

Investigators say the aircraft received substantial damage in the crash that was reported to 911 just before 4:00 PM Friday, as a downed airplane near Chiloquin.
