Oregon Coast Aquarium and Hospital Bring Calming Marine Environment to Patients

New technology makes aquarium viewing a reality in the hospital emergency waiting room.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - In a collaborative effort between the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital (SPCH), a video camera has been installed in the Passages of the Deep exhibit and will soon feed live images to the hospital’s emergency department waiting area.

Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Recognized May 10th

Families, friends and peers of Oregon's fallen officers are among those invited to attend.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training will host its annual Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Ceremony at 1:00 PM, May 10th, at the Oregon Public Safety Academy, 4190 Aumsville Highway, Salem. The ceremony will honor 166 officers who have given their lives while serving the citizens of Oregon during the last century.

"Each year we strive to recognize the significant sacrifice these men and women, and their families, have made while providing law enforcement services in our state," said DPSST Academy Training Director Cameron Campbell. "The ceremony is a small gesture of appreciation for the dedication these officers had to their work, and to the people they served."

Marion County Parole Officers Seek Whereabouts of Convicted Murderer

Anyone with information about Leroy Steven Frady is asked to call the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

(SALEM) - Parole officers are seeking the whereabouts of 64-year-old Leroy Steven Frady, for failing to report to his parole officer. He is considered a high risk offender.

Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says Frady is on parole for convictions for Murder, Public Indecency and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. He was last known to be in the downtown Salem area.

Pelosi and Reid Respond to Bush Veto

President Bush vetoed the Democratic War Funding Bill.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Democrats responded to the presidential veto of a war spending bill submitted for approval. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says that in the coming days, they will continue to reach out to the president. "And we hope Congressional Republicans who have remained silent through this debate will work with us as well."

"The President may be content with keeping our troops mired in the middle of an open-ended civil war, but we are not; and neither are most Americans.

A bipartisan majority of Congress sent the President a bill to fully fund our troops and change the mission in Iraq. The president refused to sign it. That is his right, but now he has an obligation to explain his plan to responsibly end this war."

Democrats War Bill Vetoed by President

Bush vetoes the Democrats War Funding Bill.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Just after 3:00 PM Pacific Time, the President went live on TV to say he is seeking an Emergency War Spending Bill.

He strongly disagrees with the Democrat's position, "The opinions of politicians for the judgment of our military commanders, so a few minutes ago I vetoed the bill."

He says announcing a pullout deadline is illogical.

Immigration Rally in Salem Draws Thousands

Most of the activists say they are trying to make an impression on the U.S. government that they want a path to citizenship, they want to be legal.

(SALEM) - Demonstrators came out in force under good weather in Salem today, showing the determination of people passionate about immigration issues. They are demanding rights for 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

Salem joined other cities around the nation today as activists waved red white and blue. The slogan was, "Comprehensive Immigration reform Now." It was a line that sounded like either side could have used it.

Six People Shot in Jacksonville, Florida

The shooting occurred in the Talleyrand area near Jacksonville Memorial Stadium.

(JACKSONVILLE, Fl.) - Police in Jacksonville, Florida say the number of people shot is now seven. The shooting has not left anyone dead.

It is reported that there were two separate shootings today in a neighborhood near downtown Jacksonville.

Authorities believe the two shootings, about a block apart, were connected. Two people were shot at the first location and four more were shot at the second.

McDonalds Helps in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

The event will be held in Salem at the McDonald’s Restaurant at 1110 SE Center Street, near the state capitol.
