Hazardous Weather Advisory Issued for Willamette Valley

(SALEM) - The National Weather Service radar indicates bands of showers moving to the northeast through the north and central Willamette Valley.

These showers will continue through the afternoon and evening.

Many of these showers will contain small hail. Brief thunderstorms with locally heavy downpours and lightning are possible.

Family of Four Survives Fire; 100 Chicks Lost

A warming lamp for the chicks being placed too close to combustibles is most likely the cause of the fire.

(JEFFERSON, Ore. ) - A family of four are very, very lucky.

At 12:42 AM this morning, Pete DeJager noticed that a shed next to his renter's home located at 3052 Wintel Rd. west of Jefferson was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was already melting the siding on their single wide mobile home as the family slept.

OSP: One in Ten Commercial Drivers Test Positive for Drugs

Unlike the first Operation Trucker Check in 1998 when nearly 20 percent of the drivers refused to provide voluntary urine samples for testing, only 4 percent refused to provide a voluntary sample this year.

(SALEM) - Toxicology tests completed by the Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division on nearly 500 voluntarily provided anonymous urine tests during last month's Operation Trucker Check XII indicates about one in ten commercial drivers had controlled substances in their system.

Awesome 3000 Turns 25 on Saturday

Two former Olympic athletes will appear as celebrity guests of honor to help motivate the expected thousands of young runners.

(SALEM) - The Awesome 3000 turns 25 this Saturday, and marks a quarter century of support for Salem-Keizer schools.

The annual fun run, which raises money for the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation’s teacher grant program, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at McCulloch Stadium with the middle school girls.

Saturday’s events are capped by a 25th anniversary “Reunion Run,” a 1,500 meter, un-timed run open to anyone.

Oregon Nursing Shortage Addressed in Senate

Senate Bill 4 creates the Oregon Nursing Shortage Committee.

(SALEM) - The Senate Health Policy Committee unanimously passed out legislation yesterday that will address Oregon’s nursing shortage by integrating higher education with the workforce needs of local communities.

Senate Bill 4 will help Oregon confront the estimated need for 59,000 new healthcare workers by 2014.

Vancouver Police ask Public for Assistance in Locating Missing Man

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - Vancouver Police are attempting to locate a man who has been missing since Friday April 29th. Lauren Ray Lundblad was last seen when he left his Rosemere residence on his way to work.

Mr. Lundblad was riding a silver bicycle, enroute to Milwaukie, Oregon. He was wearing gray shorts and a green windbreaker.

Lauren Ray Lundblad is 32 years old, 6 feet tall and 210 pounds. He has brown hair, facial hair, and brown eyes. Anybody with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Vancouver Police or 911.

National Average Gasoline Price Closing in on $3

Prices keep going up. Wholesale price increase blamed on consumer demand and lack of refinery capacity.

(SALEM) - Wholesale gasoline prices continue to climb, and while the national average price for a gallon of regular, currently $2.97, was not expected to hit $3 this year, it probably will happen within the next few days.

As the national average price rose by ten cents in the past week, Oregon motorists watched gasoline prices skyrocket by more than 15-cents per gallon, pushing the statewide average up to $3.28. Salem's average of $3.25 is running slightly ahead of the state average.

Teen Dies in Traffic Crash Northeast of Lincoln City

Jeremy Duane Wescott was a junior at Taft High School in Lincoln City.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are investigating the death of 16-year old Jeremy Duane Wescott of Otis, who died Tuesday afternoon from fatal injuries in a single vehicle crash on Highway 18 east of Highway 101.

Sadly, this is the second day in a row that a fatal crash happened in the Otis/Rose Lodge area.
