Clackamas Deputies Make Swift Arrest in Murder

Evidence suggests jealousy may have motivated the killing.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Clackamas County Sheriff's investigators are pleased with the swift course of a criminal death investigation Sunday, which led to the arrest of a suspect less than 8 hours from the time of the reported tragic murder event in Wilsonville that left one man dead.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Detective Jim Strovink, says that shortly after midnight, Sunday morning, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to a home on SW Essex Court, in the City of Wilsonville.

Brown Waves On Coast Stumping Visitors, Residents

It’s actually a form of phytoplankton causing all the raucous - the basic, bottom of the food chain in the ocean on which most all life depends.

(SEASIDE, Ore./beachconnection.net/) - It started out all over the coast earlier this month: a great abundance of brown foamy patches on the waves had visitors scratching their heads and asking local merchants about it in huge numbers. The locals, most of the time, didn’t know either.

Now, the phenomenon has dissipated on the central coast, but the Seaside area has foamy chunks that are much darker and stranger than ever before, causing many to barrage Seaside businesses with questions about pollution or if there was a shipwreck spilling oil out there.

Fire in Salem Destroys One Home and Threatens Another

The cause of the fire was an inappropriate use of woodstove.

(SALEM) - Salem firefighters were called to a structure fire in Salem Sunday just after noon at 2577 Simpson Street SE. Crews enroute to the scene say they saw a large column of black smoke when they left the fire station.

Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says a second alarm was called at 12:13 PM bringing more equipment and firefighters to the scene.

Police Investigate Death of Inmate At Oregon State Penitentiary

An inmate died unexpectedly Sunday morning in his housing unit at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.

(SALEM) - Officers at the Oregon State Penitentiary responded to a man-down call Sunday morning at about 10:55 AM in E-block, a general population housing unit accommodating 560 inmates. Penitentiary security and medical staff responded as well as paramedics from the Salem Fire Department. All were unable to resuscitate 39-year old Stephen Lee Dempsey.

Dempsey was admitted to prison in June 2006 from Multnomah County on 13 counts of second-degree robbery, three counts of first-degree burglary, and one count of second-degree kidnapping. His projected release date was in June 2052.

Teen Shot at Lincoln City Tanger Outlet Mall

The suspect in the shooting is described as having a dark complexion, possibly Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall and heavy set with brown hair.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Police in Lincoln City are searching for a man accused of shooting a teenage boy at the Tanger outlet mall in Lincoln City.

Police told KPTV that a teenager, later identified as Ty Pederson, was shot during an armed robbery at the Springmaid Wamsutta store inside the Tanger Outlet Mall around 7:00 PM on Saturday.

Civil Air Patrol Joins Search for William Boyer on Oregon Coast

The Curry County Sheriff is the lead agency in this search and all media inquiries about the search should be directed to their office.

(BROOKINGS, Ore.) - The Oregon Civil Air Patrol has launched Cessna 182 Search Aircraft from the Brookings Airport in support of the Curry County Sheriff in their continuing search for 83 year old William Boyer who was reported missing last weekend.

The CAP first became involved in the search Monday and Tuesday at the request of the Curry County Sheriff Office.

Oregon Military Gala Announced

The event will be the first of its kind.

(SALEM) - The Night of Fire Benefit Car Show began five years ago when Rich Bailey, a local race car driver, was approached and asked for help in raising money for a very ill person. The person’s insurance coverage left much of the medical costs untouched. That is when Rich and others created the first Night of Fire.

To date, the Night of Fire Benefit Show has raised approximately $35,000. Bailey says this show is like no other. This year's Night of Fire Benefit car show will be held June 1st, 2007 at the Salem Evangelical Church.
