Suspects Sought for Assaulting Marion County Deputy and Burglary

(SALEM) - Oregon law enforcement is on the lookout for two men who they say are responsible for a number of crimes involving the burglary of a deputy's home and a subsequent assault on another deputy with a vehicle.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says that on Wednesday, April 11th, Marion County Reserve Deputy Greg Roach reported a burglary at his home south of Salem.

Senate Judiciary Committee Passes Domestic Partnership Bill

House Bill 2007 heads to the Senate floor for a vote.

(SALEM) - The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Ginny Burdick (D-Portland/Tigard), passed House Bill 2007A this afternoon, establishing domestic partnerships for same sex couples. The bill now heads to the Senate chamber for a floor vote. House Bill 2007A has already passed the House chamber, receiving approval on a 34-26 vote on April 17th.

Senator Burdick, a strong supporter of equal rights in Oregon, said, “This bill creates equal rights for same-sex couples that married couples already receive from the state. I truly believe that every family deserves the same benefits and recognition from the state. This is an excellent compliment to the anti-discrimination legislation passed by both chambers earlier this session.”

2-Alarm Fire Rips Through Salem 4-Plex Overnight (VIDEO)

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

(SALEM) - On Thursday, at 12:33 AM, a first alarm assigment (3 Engines,Ladder Truck, Medic Unit and Battlion Chief) responded to an Apartment Fire at 1851 13th Street SE.

Captain Bryan Turner stated, "We could see a large column of smoke when we left the fire station."

When firefighters arrived on scene, they reported flames shooting out all windows of unit of 1851 13th street SE of this single story 4-plex.

Body Recovered in Keizer May be Missing Salem Woman

The State Medical Examiner’s Office has tentatively identified a body found Tuesday in Keizer as Ms. Leslie Diane Kaltenbach.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Family members of Leslie Kaltenbach contacted the Keizer Police Department on April 18th at 10:50 AM to report her as missing. She was supposed to have visited a family member in Oregon City on the night of April 4th, but never arrived there.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Replacing the Iraq and Afghanistan military's Russian AK-47 Assault rifle with the American M-16 is a bad idea. There are many reasons, and many people in the combat theatre believe the decision is going to lead to an excessive number of needless deaths.

I fear a sad outcome like in Vietnam. American ego wins again, it seems we try to live off it these days.

When the M-16 was introduced to the war effort in Vietnam, it largely failed. What fired well in the Southern California desert did not endure the tropics of Vietnam.

Salem Traffic Stop Nets $90,000; Wanted California Fugitive

This is the largest cash seizure associated with an OSP traffic stop in the Salem area since February 12th, 2006.

(SALEM) - Oregon State Police troopers arrested two people, one who was wanted as a fugitive from justice, and seized more than $90,000 cash during a traffic stop Tuesday morning on Interstate 5 about two miles north of Salem.

UPDATE: Driver Still Sought in Salem Police Motorcycle Hit-and-Run

The maroon Infinity has been located.

(SALEM) - Salem police are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and driver who hit a police motorcycle this afternoon.

Police say at 2:51 PM, a Salem police officer stopped a 1991 Infinity, maroon in color, for traffic violations in the 800 block of Saginaw St. S.

After making the stop the officer stepped off of his motorcycle to make contact with the female driver as she got out of the car.
