Corvallis Man Assaults Female with a Knife

The victim was able to escape serious injury.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Corvallis police arrested a Corvallis man Tuesday night, for assaulting a former female co-worker at her home with a knife.

Corvallis police responded to the victims apartment in the 600 block of NW 18 street just after 10:00 PM.

An investigation revealed that 52-year-old Brian Shire entered the victims apartment through an unlocked front door.

Oregon State Luau will Bring Island Magic to Oregon on Saturday

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State University students are once again bringing a little bit of the islands to Oregon with the university’s 52nd annual Luau on Saturday in Gill Coliseum.

The tradition has grown into one of OSU’s largest and most successful campus celebrations, annually attracting more than 1,000 visitors to Corvallis.

The main show features a range of Polynesian dances performed by Hui-O-Hawaii and Polynesian Cultural Club members.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - “Darwin, Sex and Slavery” is the subject of the final lecture in Oregon State University’s 2006-07 Horning Endowment in the Humanities lecture series, which has focused on “The Cultural Politics of Evolution.”

James Moore’s lecture begins at 4:00 PM, Thursday, May 10th, in OSU’s Memorial Union Journey Room. Moore is a professor of the history of science at the Open University in Milton Keynes, England.

Moore’s talk will focus on the link between Charles Darwin’s books “The Descent of Man” and “Selection in Relation to Sex” and the moral movement of his time, the campaign to abolish slavery.

Bill Protecting Vulnerable Citizens During an Emergency Passes Oregon Senate

Legislation designed to ensure protection of residents and children in event of imminent danger.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Senate today passed House Bill 2371, legislation that will require health and child care facilities to develop emergency plans for the people they serve when there is threat of imminent danger.

House Bill 2371 requires adult foster care, residential and child health care facilities to develop safety plans for persons receiving care at the facility.

(SALEM) - The Director of Basic Rights Oregon, issued a statement today in reaction to the recent comments by Oregon State Representative Dennis Richardson (R- Central Point) in a weekly newsletter to his district.

In the newsletter, Richardson made a "reprehensible comparison" between the massacre at Virginia Tech last week and the passage of a Domestic Partnership bill and a statewide anti-discrimination bill.

Soldier from Oregon Killed in Iraq

Mike Vaughan is the third soldier from Oregon's coastal Lincoln County, to die in the fighting in Iraq over the past six weeks.

(OTIS, Ore. ) - A U.S. Army soldier from the small community of Otis, near Lincoln City on Oregon's central coast, was one of nine American soldiers who were killed when a suicide bomber struck a patrol base north of Baghdad Monday.

20-year-old Mike Vaughan was a member of the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Monday’s attack was the deadliest attack on the 82nd Airborne since 1969.

Albany Drug Raid Leads to Three Arrests; Four Children into Protective Custody

Two of the children, ages 2 and 17 were home at the time of the raid.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Albany police arrested three people and took four children into protective custody during a drug raid Tuesday morning.

Capt. Eric Carter says officers served a search warrant at a home located at 1605 Powell St. SE following complaints from neighbors.

FBI Investigating Threating Letters about College Cheerleaders

The FBI believes that the author may be directly or indirectly involved in some element of cheerleading and/or the television production/coverage aspect of collegiate athletics.

(PORTLAND) - The FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are asking for the public's help in identifying the person or persons responsible for mailing dozens of unusual, threatening letters pertaining to the television coverage of collegiate football and basketball cheerleaders.

The letters were sent to various national networks and their local affiliates, as well as to various individuals in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and throughout the Midwest.
