(SALEM) - The City of Salem last year plunked down exactly one dollar to purchase the Union St. Railroad Bridge. That's only the nominal down payment, however.

That railroad span, inoperative since the late 80's, has been proposed for cyclists and pedestrians only. The reality along side is that the Marion St. Bridge is badly overcrowded and getting worse each year.

While the original peak traffic during rush hour was 65,000, according to a city traffic engineer, the current overwhelming peak load is approaching 100,000. Is saying "ouch" adequate?

The public is invited to the event which will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Laura Smither's abduction and murder.

Lakewood, Washington Police announced new billboards in the unsolved case of Adre'anna Jackson. A billboard unveiling took place at Union Avenue and Center Street in Tacoma, Washington. Attending the event were all representatives from all participating agencies.

Wal-Mart takes customer service to its lowest levels, when they accuse a reporter of burning a computer game, then trying to exchange it for the SAME game.

(SALEM, Ore.) - I went to the Wal-Mart on south Commercial Friday and purchased a new video game for my PC. After getting home, the game would not load or work. After about a half-hour of following the instructions, yes I’m computer stupid, I called the company and asked for help.

The representative told me that I must have gotten a bad disk, and I should return the game to Wal-Mart where I purchased it for another.

Illegal Activity on State Lands in Central Oregon on the Rise

Public advised of actions that could result in fines.

(BEND, Ore. ) - From bike jumps to dumping garbage, illegal activities on land owned by the Department of State Lands just outside the Bend city limits are on the increase.

The activities are taking place on DSL’s Steven’s Road parcel, located southeast of the intersection at Reed Market Road and 27th Street.

Dumping garbage, using motorized vehicles, altering the land, discharging firearms, and using campfires on the site are against the law.

Benton County to be Without Early Morning Sheriff Patrols Beginning Sunday

Two deputies will be assigned to an “on-call” status during the early morning hours and will respond to life threatening incidents.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Effective April 1st, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office will begin a new patrol schedule that will leave rural Benton County without early morning patrol coverage.

With the loss of federal county payments and voter approved tax limitations, the Sheriff’s Office will not have resources or personnel to provide twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week patrol coverage.

From 3:00 AM until 7:00 AM, the Sheriff’s Office will not have deputies on patrol.

North Downtown Salem Site A Sold

Groundbreaking is expected within the next six months with project completion anticipated by spring of 2009.

(SALEM) - The Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem has formally transferred ownership of North Downtown Site A to Telos Development Company of Salem.

Located along Broadway Street, just south of Market, Telos plans to build the Broadway Town Square project, an innovate mixed-use development, consisting of 18,000 square feet of retail space, including an independent movie theater, 21 apartment units, and 16 for-sale townhouses.

Woman Extricated From Car in Salem Following Crash

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the car to able to remove the patient from the vehicle.

(SALEM) - Several Salem Fire units responded to a report of a one-car accident today just before 5:00 PM.

Salem Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says crews arrived on the scene to find a person trapped in the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident at Commercial Street and Fabry Street SE.

"Witnesses stated the 42-year old female was traveling south on commercial in her Kia when she veered off the road and crashed alongside some large boulders."
