Be Aware! No More Studded Tires in Oregon Beginning Sunday

ODOT is NOT extending the studded tire season this year? The deadline remains April 1st.

(SALEM) - A sure sign of springtime is the approach of Oregon's deadline to remove studded tires from motor vehicles by Sunday, April 1st.

Weather forecasts from the National Weather Service predict that daytime temperatures will be in the low to mid 50's next week with only a chance of rain showers even in Central Oregon.

Drivers with studded tires on their vehicles after the deadline can be charged with a Class C traffic violation, which carries a maximum $145 fine.

Police Recover Teen`s Body from Molalla River

Alcohol and/drugs do not appear to be involved in this incident.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Authorities had the sad task of recovering the body of an 18-year old Canby man from the Molalla River River Thursday afternoon.

Jesse Bough drowned after jumping into the fast moving water about 5 1/2 miles above the Glen Avon Bridge, in an area known as "Party Rock."

Detective Jeffrey Green with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says his agency is investigating the apparent drowning.

Baby Poultry Pose Salmonella Threat in Western Oregon

Spring is a popular time of the year for people to purchase baby chickens and ducks, but health officials say there is more you should know.

(SALEM) - Nearly one-fifth of the chicks sold in agricultural feed stores in western Oregon harbored the Salmonella bacteria, a study by two state agencies reported today.

The Oregon Public Health Division and the Oregon Department of Agriculture surveyed agricultural feed stores in western Oregon in February and March of last year. Salmonella bacteria were found in 25 (18 percent) of the 137 chicks tested in 16 stores.

BREAKING NEWS Amber Alert in Washington Cancelled- Kids Safe and Sound

The kids were reported to be unhurt and healthy.

(IDAHO SPRINGS, Co.) - The Washington State Police and the State of Montana canceled the Amber Alert after the children were recovered safe and the suspect taken into custody in Denver on Thursday afternoon.

The children from Walla Walla who were the subject of an Amber Alert have been located safe and sound in Idaho Springs, Colorado.

Their father who had been described as dangerous, John Baugher is in custody.

Number of Farms in Oregon Drops for First Time Since 1990

About 98 percent of all Oregon farming operations are owned by families.

(SALEM) - After holding steady at an estimated 40,000 farms each year since 1999, the number of farms in Oregon dropped to 39,300 in 2006, according to new figures released this month by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

While not a huge decrease, the latest statistic breaks a trend going back 16 years of either an increasing number or the same number of farms in Oregon.

It also marks the lowest number since 1997 when there were an estimated 39,000 farms statewide.

Names Released in Fatal Surfing Incident at Newport

The man's two friends were not injured.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - A southern Oregon area man died Tuesday afternoon after being overcome by large waves while surfing with two friends at Yaquina Head on the north end of Newport.

The victim died after being transported to a Newport-area hospital and is identified as 26-year old Luther Lloyd Johnston of Wolf Creek.

The two friends with Johnston are identified as 25-year old Neil Ryan Deatheridge of Eugene, and 33-year old David Leon Bower of Glendale, Oregon.

Gunman on the Loose After Shooting West Salem Woman

This case is very unusual due to the apparent randomness and the willingness of the suspect to shoot so quickly.

(SALEM) - Last night about 9:00 PM a 32-year-old woman was shot during a robbery in front of her West Salem Home. She was transported to Salem Hospital where she underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The shooting and robbery occurred in the 500 block of Gerth St N.W.

The suspect is described as a white male, late teens to early 20's, 5'7"-5'11", with a thin to medium build. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket with the hood up and some type of cloth covering the lower part of his face. He was armed with an unknown caliber handgun. He was last seen running southbound on Gerth St.

Canby, Oregon Man Found Guilty on 46 Counts of Sex Crimes

The crimes occurred in Lincoln County and Canby.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - A Canby man has been found guilty of 46 counts of sex crimes by a Lincoln County Jury last Friday.

63-year-old Rex Duane Stephenson was originally arrested July 6th, 2006 for multiple counts of various sex crimes.

The two female juvenile victims were known to Stephenson, and were 11 years old when the abuse started.

Smoke Detector Saves Salem Family of Seven from Fire

The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction of an electrical candle.

(SALEM) - On Thursday, at 4:22 AM, a first alarm assignment (3 Engines, Ladder Truck, Medic Unit and Battalion Chief) responded to a Structure Fire at 1120 15th Street NE.

This single family dwelling had a total of 7 occupants living in the home.

They did have a working smoke detector which alerted them to the fire and allowed them to escape safely.

UPDATE: Salem Police Still Searching for Suspect who Shot Woman in West Salem

(SALEM) - Salem police are searching for an armed suspect who shot a woman in the 500 block of Gerth Ave. NW around 9:00 PM Wednesday night.

Salem police spokesman Lt. John Hoffmeister says a woman was shot during a robbery.

The search is now concentrated around the following streets and neighborhoods: Ruge St, Franklin St., Elm St., and Kingwood Ave.
