Body Found in Oregon Coast Range Now a Homicide Investigation

Victim: Caucasian or Hispanic male, Estimated age late 20's to early 30's; Approximately 5'6" tall with a small build; Very short dark hair; Blue jeans.

(TILLAMOOK ) - A multi-agency investigation led by Oregon State Police detectives is continuing into the discovery of a partially decomposed body reported Sunday afternoon in a remote, wooded area south of Highway 6 in the Browns Camp area.

On Tuesday, the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy that did not lead to a positive identification.

Preliminary investigation indicates there was an attempt to prevent positive identification but detectives are declining to go into further details at this time for investigative reasons.

The CIA report is the only major 9/11 government review that has not been made public, a fact that the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Kit Bond (R-MO) and U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), a senior member of the Intelligence Committee, have spent more than a year working to correct.

Oregon Gas Prices Nearing $3 a Gallon

In the Salem-area, the average gas price has risen 18-cents in the last week to $2.78 a gallon.

(SALEM) - In mid-February, gasoline prices in Oregon were in the early stages of moving upward; by month's end, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular stood at $2.52.

Since then, the average price has soared to $2.77, gaining slightly more than 25-cents per gallon in two weeks.

Of Oregon's four measured metropolitan areas, Portland recorded the greatest two week price jump -- almost 29-cents per gallon.

Financial stocks, homebuilders and REITs were targets of today’s intense selling.

The financial sector was the biggest loser among the ten S&P 500 sectors due to the subprime concerns while energy was the lone sector trading in positive territory.

State Expects Greater Interest in Treatment Following TV Series

A series premiere is scheduled Wednesday at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

(SALEM) - State officials say they are preparing to meet heightened interest in treatment and recovery growing out of a 14-part HBO series on addictions that begins Thursday.

"We're hoping people will watch the series, engage in local town-hall meetings and home discussion groups, and learn that addiction is really a treatable brain disease," said Bob Nikkel, Oregon Department of Human Services assistant director for addictions and mental health.

Oregon Schools Will Have to Use Paper-and-Pencil Tests

TESA testing in reading, math and science in Oregon is suspended until the fall of 2007.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Education announced Monday that all Oregon schools will use paper-and-pencil assessment tests in math and reading for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year.

The action is necessary because ODE's contractor for TESA, Vantage Learning, has declined to continue performing services required under the contract.

ODE exhausted every option to continue with TESA until the end of the school year.
