Veteran Bluesman Paul deLay Dies at 55

The NW blues legend passed away suddenly from leukemia.

(PORTLAND) - Extremely popular NW blues performer Paul deLay who has been on Oregon's music scene for more than three decades passed away Wednesday from Leukemia.

According to Jimmy Lloyd Rea of Baker City, Oregon, Paul had been in and out of hospitals for more than ten years, but the leukemia was not noted until 48 hours before he died.

It is reported that Paul deLay felt ill after a benefit performance at Klamath Falls’ Ross Ragland Theater. Paul thought it might be from the band's recent Mexico trip. But shortly after doctors diagnosed late-stage leukemia, Paul deLay went into a coma.

(SALEM) - More than 500 Oregonians rallied on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol today in support of Senate Bill 2 and House Bill 2007.

Together, the two bills would create basic fairness and basic rights for all Oregonians. SB 2 would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, public accommodations and other areas. HB 2007 would create a new statute in Oregon law to provide legal recognition to committed same-sex couples and their families.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture is offering tips to homeowners when it comes to using pesticides.

Suspect Identified in December 2006 Oregon Homicide

(SALEM) - Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff's Office say they have identified a suspect in a homicide from December 2nd, 2006.

18-year-old Juan Manual Lopez-Pacheco has been identified as the suspect in the case, according to Spokesman Kevin Rau.

"Lopez-Pacheco is known to associate with the Brown Pride Raza (BPR) gang and goes by the moniker of “Pelon.”. Lopez-Pacheco’s whereabouts are currently unknown and the Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in locating him."

Oregon Online Student Assessment Testing Suspended

No later than 5:00 PM on March 13th, ODE will make a determination if TESA can be used for the remainder of the school year.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Education has suspended all state assessment testing on the TESA system.

ODE is actively investigating a paper-and-pencil testing option in order to complete the school year and ensure that schools, districts and the state of Oregon meet their obligations under state and federal law and to support the use of valid and reliable assessment data to improve student achievement.

Surviving Driver Identified in Fatal Crash on 99E South of Brooks

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.

(BROOKS) - An Oregon City woman died Tuesday afternoon when the car she was driving crashed head-on with another car on Highway 99E about 1/2 mile south of Brooks. The other driver has been identified as 58-year old Carolyn Palacio of Woodburn.

Two Inmates Commit Suicide in Washington Over a Four Day Period

Given the fact that both suicides occurred within in such short time period, the Sheriff's Office says they will conduct an in-depth review of the jail policy and procedures.

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - Within a four day period the Clark County Jail has had two inmates commit suicide while in custody at the main jail 707 W. 13th Street. Both suicides appear to be from hanging.

The first incident occurred March 2nd at approximately 9:30 AM. The inmate in this incident was identified as 49-year old John Robert Burgoon of Portland, Oregon.

The second incident occurred today at approximately 3:15 PM. The inmate in this incident was identified as 22-year old Jesse D Miller of Vancouver, Washington.

Motorcyclist Lifeflighted After Serious Crash Near Clackamas

Police have not releases the name of the rider.

(CLACKAMAS) - Investigators say a serious motorcycle crash in the Carver curves near the intersection of 224 and 197th Wednesday serves as a reminder of how dangerous wet roads in Oregon can be for cyclists.

The crash involved a single motorist who lost control of his motorcycle as he went around a corner, hit the soft shoulder, and crashed into a concrete culvert.

Wyden Amendment to Make CIA Inspector General Report Public

Wyden says the amendment requires the CIA to declassify parts of the Inspector General’s report on 9/11.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Believing that the American people have a right to know how the CIA performed prior to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, today, offered an amendment that would require the Director of the CIA to declassify the Executive Summary of the CIA Inspector General’s report on 9/11. The CIA report is the only major 9/11 government review that has not been made public.

Wyden’s amendment to the “Improving America's Security by Implementing Unfinished Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007” (S.4) is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Kit Bond (R-MO), the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
