Mass Telephone Call System Assists With Search of Missing Oregon Woman

They hope it will lead them to Dena Kline, missing since Saturday morning.

(CLACKAMAS) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is using new technology in the search for Dena Kline. The sheriff's Office has asked the Clackamas County Emergency Management Center to utilize a telephone calling system that can call phone numbers in a pre-determined area to request information concerning Dena Kline.

The system, obtained from Dialogic Communication Center, was obtained by a grant and can utilized to broadcast information or to request information from specific areas by calling numbers in a certain zone.

Action Taken Against Oregon Couple Accused of Accepting Kickbacks

Monem was placed on administrative leave in January pending the outcome of the investigation.

(SALEM) - A state employee of more than 10 years has been fired over accusations of accepting $650,000 in kickbacks from a California food wholesaler.

Farhad "Fred" Monem was the food-purchasing manager for Oregon’s prison system, along with his wife, Karen Monem. They were charged with using the kickbacks to pay their mortgage, car payments, credit cards, membership in a golf club and other expenses, according to a search warrant affidavit filed by an IRS investigator in a U.S. District Court in Eugene.

(SALEM) - For Youth AIDS Day, members of the Student Global AIDS Campaign (SGAC) at Willamette University are visiting the offices of Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Darlene Hooley dressed as health care workers with their hands tied, to symbolize International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies that impede countries from being able to invest in healthcare infrastructure.

In 2005 at the G8 Summit, world leaders promised Universal Treatment Access for those living with the virus by 2010. AIDS activists contend that if this goal is to be realized, countries must be able to train and retain doctors, nurses and community health care workers.

Cooking Fire Causes 40K in Damage to Home

The cause of the fire was determined to be a accidental cooking fire. The loss is estimated at $40,000.

(SALEM) - Salem firefighters responded to an Structure Fire at 2964 Logan Court NE Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM.

The occupant, Erin Twing, was cooking when the oil she was using ignited. The fire quickly spread to the oil jug that was sitting on the counter next to the stove.

All 5 people, 2 adults and 3 kids, got out safely without injuries. Twing did indicate that their smoke detector did operate.

(NEW YORK) - Since the 1970s, hundreds of tombs and thousands of ossuaries (limestone bone boxes) have been discovered in the Jerusalem area. These ossuaries served as coffins in first-century Jerusalem.

One of these tombs was found to contain ten ossuaries. Six of the ossuaries in this tomb have inscriptions on them. As it turns out, every inscription in this particular tomb relates to the Gospels.

Weekend Drug Sweep in Salem Lands 15 Behind Bars

Five children were placed into protective custody.

(SALEM) - On Friday and Saturday, Marion County Street Crimes Detectives and Sheriff's Deputies, in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, made contact at several residences in Marion County where we had received numerous drug activity complaints recently.

During the sweep, 15 adults were arrested and 5 children we removed from known drug houses and placed into protective custody.

A variety of charges were filed.

Delta to Begin Salem to Salt Lake City Non-Stop Flights in June

Delta says customers can begin purchasing SLE to SLC tickets online beginning on Tuesday.

(SALEM) - Salem business and community leaders let out a big cheer of “SLE to SLC” after years of hard work paid-off Monday, when Atlanta based Delta Airlines announced it would begin serving Salem’s McNary Field with two round-trip non-stop flights a day, 365 days a year to Salt Lake City, the airlines west coast hub, beginning June 7th.

Delta has assigned a CRJ-200 to the Salem-Salt Lake City route which can accommodate up to 50 passengers.

The flights are scheduled to leave Salem at 6:30 AM arriving Salt Lake City at 9:15 AM and 1:15 PM arriving in Salt Lake City at 4:00 PM.

(SALEM) - Dozens converged at the state Capitol Monday, hoping to persuade Oregon lawmakers to oppose President Bush’s plan to deploy 21,500 additional combat troops to help quell sectarian violence in Baghdad and other trouble spots in Iraq.

Steve DeFord, of Salem, is among those who urged an end to the war and a quick withdrawal of American forces.

His 37-year-old son, Oregon National Guard Sgt. David W. Johnson, was killed in Baghdad on Sept. 25, 2004, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy.

Oregon State Police Detective finds Injury Crash With Ejected Child Near Albany

Troopers are investigating to determine if she was in the child safety seat when the car was being driven at the time of the crash.

(ALBANY) - The father of a two-year old child ejected during a rollover crash is being cited on numerous charges following a late night traffic crash along Interstate 5 at the Highway 20 southbound off ramp. The crash was discovered early Monday
morning at 6:40 AM by an Oregon State Police Lottery Division detective as he drove by the area.
