Police urge drivers to use extreme caution this morning due to slick roadways throughout the mid-valley.

(SALEM) - A Snow Advisory is in effect for the Willamette Valley until 6:00 PM tonight.

SALEM-KEIZER - Two hrs. late. No AM Kind.
Salem Catholic Schools: 2 hrs late.
Silver Falls Sch. Dist.: Victor Point, Silver Crest and Scotts Mills schools CLOSED. No high school bus service in those areas. All other schools 2 hour delay, no AM kindergarten, buses on snow rts.
Community Action Head Start of Marion & Polk Cos.: No morning classes -Salem, Woodburn, Dallas, Independence, Stayton. 2 hour delay at full day full year sites.

Searchers Growing Desperate to Find Missing Elderly Oregon Woman

80-year-old Dena Delphine Kline of Wilsonville suffers from Cancer and Asthma.

(OREGON CITY) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has developed new information concerning missing person Dena Kline.

Detectives received information Tuesday that Kline was at the Corner Saloon on Saturday morning, at about 1:30 AM.

Her vehicle is a 1990 four door Honda Accord, teal in color, bearing Idaho license plates K332915.

Hooley Legislation Would Protect Drug-Endangered Children

Bill would Provide $20 million in Grants for FY 08 and 09.

(Washington DC) - Today Congresswoman Darlene Hooley (OR-5) teamed up with Congressmen Dennis Cardoza (CA-18) and Rick Larsen (WA-2) to introduce legislation to help children living in homes in which methamphetamine or other drugs are used or manufactured by providing $20 million for Drug Endangered Children grants for fiscal years (FY) 2008 and 2009.

The Drug Endangered Children grants provide money to states to improve coordination between the state and local agencies that provide assistance to children found in homes made dangerous by drugs and to aid the transition of these children to safe residential environments.

Proposal Could Make Oregon Kids Healthier

Critics worry that removing high-calorie, fatty foods and sugary beverages would cost schools thousands of dollars in lost fundraising revenues that support extracurricular activities.

(SALEM ) - Amid concerns that Oregon schoolchildren are getting fat, state lawmakers are considering a proposal that would restrict foods and beverages sold in school cafeterias, student stores and vending machines.

Among legislators who want chips, candy and cookies replaced with healthier alternatives such as dried fruits, nuts and granola bars is Rep. Tina Kotek, D-Portland.

Drug Investigation Leads to Seizure of Crystal Meth, Cash and Three Arrests

(EUGENE) - Three people are being charged with drug-related crimes following the execution of a search warrant in the Eugene area. Oregon State Police troopers were assisted during the search warrant execution by OSP SWAT team and OSP detectives of the Governor's Methamphetamine Initiative Team.

High Wind & Surf Advisories Issued for Willamette Valley and Coast

Snow/rain/and wind is affecting commuters in the Salem-area. Police are advising motorists to SLOW DOWN and use caution throughout the day.

(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory until 7:00 PM for the Willamette Valley.

South winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to near 45 mph. The winds are being produced by a strong low pressure center that was along the north Oregon Coast this morning and is tracking inland near the northern Clark County border later today.

There have been 25 foot seas at Tillamook, and seas of over 20 feet are likely today along the coast.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 45 and 57 mph.

Needless to say, high winds may cause property damge.

Marion County Receives $20,000 Grant for Food Recovery/Waste Reduction Program

The Fresh Alliance Food Recovery Program will work to reduce food waste and alleviate hunger throughout Marion County.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has awarded a $20,000 solid waste grant to Marion County for a program that helps prevent food waste from going to local landfills while also filling a need to provide area residents with nutritious food.

The “Fresh Alliance Food Recovery Program” project grant is among the 15 awarded this year by DEQ to help communities promote solid waste prevention/reduction and conduct household hazardous waste programs.

The solid waste grants program, established by the Oregon Legislature, is funded through fees on solid waste disposal throughout the state.

Snow Advisory Issued for Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast Range

(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Snow Advisory for the Willamette Valley, including the Cascade foothills in Marion and Linn counties, and a Heavy Snow Warning is in effect for the Oregon Coast Range including Polk and Yamhill counties until 6:00 PM this evening.

The band of showers is moving into the Willamette Valley is weakening as it moves into drier air.

A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties.
