Police: Oregon Mother Knew Husband Was Using Stun Gun on Infant Son

Albany police say the little boy was attacked as many as ten times. He is now in the care of DHS.

(ALBANY) - Police investigating the case of an Albany father who allegedly repeatedly used a 100,000 volt stun-gun device on his 18-month old son, say the boy's mother knew about the abuse weeks before she turned him in to authorities.

Albany police Capt. Eric Carter says 21-year old Jennifer Whittman told investigators that she caught her husband, 23-year old Rian James Whittman, using the device on their son about three weeks ago.

State Capitol to Host Veterans Muster

All veterans, their families, and the public are invited to attend.

(SALEM) - Hundreds of military veterans, veterans' organizations, and supporters will gather on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 14th, for a Veterans Muster.

Sponsored by the United Veterans Groups of Oregon (UVGO), the Muster is a public forum to show support for veterans and address pending state legislation that will impact Oregon's veteran community.

Dick Lucht, Chair of the UVGO said the gathering would bring together veterans of all ages and military eras.

Man Shot in The Head While Snorkeling in Oregon River

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

(REEDSPORT) - Police on Wednesday arrested 60-year-old William Roderick of Reedsport in connection with the shooting of a man while he was snorkeling in the Smith River, just north of Reedsport.

A Douglas County Sheriff's spokesman says 44-year-old John Chessman is hospitalized in serious condition at OHSU with a gun shot wound to the head.

The Douglas County major crimes team is investigating a number of leads in Tuesday afternoon's shooting.

Fire Damages Turner Storage Building

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

(TURNER) - A two-alarm fire Wednesday morning destroyed a Turner storage building.

The Turner Fire District says just before 10:30 AM, firefighters were called to 1177 Enchanted Way.

Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out, and they stayed on scene for several hours afterwards to remove combustible items.

Oregon Earns National Award From PlanSponsor Magazine

Names PERS as Public Plan Sponsor of the Year.

(SALEM) - PlanSponsor magazine has recognized the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System for closing its $17 billion dollar pension funding gap.

The national publication has named PERS as its Public Plan Sponsor of the Year.

The announcement was made in the cover story of the magazine’s February issue.

The retirement system was able to take advantage of good investment earnings because of the 2003 PERS reforms approved by the state legislature and brokered by Governor Ted Kulongoski.

Suspected Online Predator Arrested at Portland Airport

Police say the man was persistent, continuing to send emails to a detective posing as a teen girl in a chatroom, after a joint police investigation ended.

(PORTLAND) - Several federal and local agencies worked together over the past weekend targeting on-line predators. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Jim Strovink says the mission, titled "Operation Cyber Sting 2007", was headed up by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and included several other agencies.

With current research showing that 1 in 5 children between 10 and 17 years old are reporting being approached and sexually solicited online, investigators say it was no surprise that the alleged predators moved quickly and aggressively.

Seven Killed as Marine Helicopter Crashes in Anbar Province

(WASHINGTON) - All seven crewmembers and passengers were killed when a Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter went down in Iraq's Anbar province this morning, a senior U.S. military officer based in Baghdad confirmed today.

Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, told reporters the helicopter went down about 20 miles northwest of Baghdad.

(SALEM) - By law, your employer is required to provide you with a W-2 form by January 31st.
