New Jersey Man Arrested Along Oregon Coast

27-year-old Robert L. Rhoads, from Burlington, New Jersey faces DUII, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering charges.

(NEWPORT) - A New Jersey man has learned the hard way not to drink and drive in Oregon.

On Tuesday just before 11:00 PM a Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Deputy observed a silver Honda Accord, bearing New Jersey license plate, traveling south on U.S. Hwy 101 near SW Alder St. in Newport without headlights on.

Funeral For Keizer Soldier Killed in Iraq Tentatively Set

Pfc. Ryan J. Hill becomes the 49th soldier with Oregon ties to have died in the Iraq war.

(SALEM) - A memorial service for twenty-year-old Army Pfc. Ryan J. Hill, of Keizer was killed in Baghdad Saturday has been tentatively set for Feb. 2nd.

Hill died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee.

West Coast Senators Put County Payments on Senate Agenda

“Without county payments funding, there is a real question as to whether or not these communities can survive,” Senator Ron Wyden said.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - A bipartisan coalition of West Coast Senators on Wednesday announced the introduction of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Reauthorization Act of 2007.

The legislation would restore funding for the critical “county payments” law by reauthorizing the successful program for seven years.

Over 700 counties in 39 states received funding under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act of 2000, which was allowed to expire in September 2006.

Be Aware! Major Changes Coming to Parking in Downtown Salem

Downtown parking utilization will be formally surveyed at least once per year and parking uses will be adjusted to meet ongoing needs of downtown businesses and customers.

(SALEM) - Beginning February 1st, most on-street parking spaces in downtown Salem will have a two-hour time limit.

Spaces with a 30-minute time limit are available near most intersections.

Parking for longer stays will still be available in the city's three downtown parking structures.

Thirty-minute and two-hour parking on-street and unlimited parking in the structures will continue to be free for downtown customers, visitors, and shoppers.

Fire Erupts Inside Canby Apartment

The Oregon Trail Chapter of the Red Cross was called to the scene to help the displaced tenants with their food, clothing, and shelter needs.

(CANBY) - At approximately 8:50 AM Wednesday morning a fire erupted at 290 S Locust Street in Canby, the Forest Manor Apartments, an 8-plex townhouse.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from an upstairs window with both tenants standing outside the unit clearly in distress.

Occupant Kim Kelly, and her friend Doug were at home when the fire started.

(SALEM) - The National Priorities Project released Wednesday a new publication, More Troops, More Dollars, which breaks down the cost of the Iraq War by state and congressional district.

The breakdown is based on a total cost of $378 billion.

That is $3,375 for every American household or $1,275 for every American or $2,848 per taxpayers.

Oregon Congressional Leaders Voice Concern Over President`s Speech

Oregon lawmakers seem concerned with the President's proposals on employer-provided health insurance, and energy.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon's Congressional deligation is sounding off today on the President's State of the Union speech.

During his address on Tuesday night, President Bush covered a wide range of subjects, from the economy to the environment, but his main topic was the war in Iraq.

Bush said "Our country is pursuing a new strategy in Iraq, and I ask you to give it a chance to work. And I ask you to support our troops in the field and those on their way," Bush said, because "America must not fail in Iraq."

One Dead, Four Injured After Police Pursuit Crash

The investigation is being forwarded to the Linn County District Attorney's Office for consideration of criminal charges.

(ALBANY) - One person died and four others were injured Tuesday afternoon in Albany when the car the victim was riding in crashed with another vehicle while attempting to elude an Albany police officer.

OSP says at approximately 1:25 PM, an Albany police officer had attempted to stop a 1985 BMW 325E four-door with four occupants for erratic driving and speeding on Highway 20 at Burkhart in Albany.

The driver failed to stop and sped off attempting to elude the officer on area roads.

Another U.S. Army Soldier From Oregon Killed in Iraq

(KEIZER) - Twenty-year old Army Pfc. Ryan J. Hill, of Keizer was killed in Baghdad Saturday the Department of Defense announced late Tuesday.

Hill died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee.

Also on Saturday, Sgt. Sean Patrick Fennerty, of Portland, was killed in action while conducting combat operations against Anti-Iraqi forces in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.
