Small Plane Crashes in Southern Oregon

Fortunately neither man was injured in the crash.

(CHEMULT) - Two men were uninjured Tuesday afternoon when their plane made an emergency landing in a logged off area about 1/4 mile west of Highway 97 near the junction with Highway 138 south of Chemult.

OSP says at approximately 12:55 PM, a Cessna 172 containing two occupants was enroute from Ashland to Sunriver when it reportedly experienced fuel problems.

The pilot, 71-year-old Donald Karpen, from Talent, made an emergency landing on a snow-covered logged off area about one mile from the Beaver Marsh airstrip.

Oregon Couple Accused of Accepting Kickbacks From California Food Wholesaler

So far no charges have been filed.

(EUGENE) - An Oregon couple is accused of accepting $650,000 in kickbacks from a California food wholesaler.


Farhad "Fred" Monem is the food-purchasing manager for Oregon’s prison system, along with his wife, Karen Monem, allegedly used the kickbacks to pay their mortgage, car payments, credit cards, membership in a golf club and other expenses, according to a search warrant affidavit filed by an IRS investigator in a U.S. District Court in Eugene.

Oregon, Nationwide Gas Prices Continue to Tumble

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Salem-area has dropped 8-cents in the past week to $2.55.

(SALEM) - Gasoline prices across the nation continue to fall; in the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular dropped another seven cents to $2.16.

Oregon's statewide average price went down almost eight cents per gallon to $2.56.

In Portland-Vancouver the average price fell 7-cents to 2.54, in Medford-Ashalnd the price also dropped 7-cents to 2.54, and in Eugene-Springfield the average price fell 13-cents to 2.53 a gallon.

UPDATE: Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Crash: Five Seriously Injured

Waverly Drive is anticipated to be closed for several hours while the collision is investigated.

(ALBANY) - A two minute pursuit began Tuesday afternoon when an Albany Police Officer attempted to stop a brown 1995 BMW near Santiam Highway and Columbus Street in Albany.

The officer says the driver refused to stop and led him on a two minute pursuit which ended in a traffic collision on Waverly Drive south of Grand Prairie Road.

The BMW collided with a 1995 Ford Mustang occupied by a lone driver.

Oregon AG Files $8 Million Settlement With Bayer Corporation

Under the judgment, $600,000 will be deposited into the Oregon Department of Justice Consumer Protection and Education Fund.

(SALEM) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers Tuesday filed an $8 million consent general judgment with Bayer Corporation over its misleading marketing of Baycol, a drug used to lower cholesterol that was withdrawn from the market on August 7th, 2001.

The judgment, filed in Marion County Circuit Court, is part of a 30-state action with Oregon and Michigan as co-leaders of the Executive Committee.

The settlement requires the drug manufacturing giant to register its clinical trials on a national website and post the study results.

Report Finds Oregonians Support School-Based Health Centers

In December, a new health center opened on the Hoover Elementary School campus in Salem.

(SALEM) - Oregonians overwhelmingly support school-based health centers, according to survey findings cited in a new report, "School-Based Health Centers: Quality Health Care for Kids," which the Oregon Department of Human Services Public Health Division released this month.

School-based health centers, or SBHCs, are primary care clinics located at schools.

They provide physical, emotional and preventive health care to students regardless of the students' ability to pay.

Salem, Keizer, Woodburn Businesses Agree to Liquor Violation Settlements

If the business fail to pay the fines, each face stiff liquor license suspensions.

(SALEM) - Salem, Keizer, Woodburn and Adair Village businesses have agreed to pay fines to the Oregon Oregon Liquor Control Commission for liquor law violations.

Under a stipulated settlement with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, the licensee for Rack N’ Cue 1970 Lancaster Dr. NE #125, agreed to pay a $3,465 civil penalty by Jan. 26th or begin serving a 21-day license suspension Jan. 31st for a liquor law violation.

The OLCC says the licensee failed to maintain liquor liability insurance or a minimum $300,000 corporate surety bond, in accordance with OAR 845-005-0400(1).

Police Seeking Suspect in Weekend Robbery

The suspect is described as a white male mid 30’s with a thin build, approximately 5'10, and weighs about 160 pounds.

(HARRISBURG) - Linn County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a robbery that occurred at the EZ Stop Market located on 3rd street in Harrisburg.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says on Saturday at approximately 10:00 PM a male subject entered the store at a time when no other customers were present.

He demanded money from the store clerk, who complied.
