Oregon PUC Rejects PacifiCorp Plan to Build Two Coal Plants

In its decision, the Commission declined to resolve issues related to CO2 risk at this time.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Public Utility Commission has rejected PacifiCorp’s request to conditionally approve a plan to seek bids to build two coal plants in order to meet growing energy demands.

The Commission found that the company failed to justify the need to acquire the amount and type of energy resources sought.

And the company’s proposal was not consistent with its earlier acknowledged resource plan.

Ice, Dense Fog Could Make Roads Dangerous, Impassable Tonight, Wednesday

Police and ODOT say motorists should avoid travel in the mid-valley tonight and Wednesday morning unless absolutely necessary.

(SALEM) - ODOT is warning motorists to stay off the roads Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning as icy conditions are expected to continue.

Particular trouble spots include Interstate 5 from Eugene to Ashland and highways between the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Coast.

Well Known Local School Bus Driver Dies From Hit And Run Injuries

Gary Phillips had many friends in the Salem area.

(SALEM) - 65-year old Gary Phillips passed away from injuries suffered in a serious hit and run collision early this week. He held on for several days but lost his fight for survival Tuesday just before noon,

20-year old Corey Duffield was already charged with felony hit and run and assault, but that was while Mr. Phillips remained in critical condition at Salem Hospital.

Now it is likely that the charges will be elevated to include the death of Gary Phillips. A comment from the District Attorney's Office about new charges was not yet available.

Oregon Fire Officials Seeing Increase in Sledding Accidents Involving Children

(BEAVERTON) - Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is now seeing a multitude of incidents involving individuals falling due to slick sideways and parking lots, and sledding accidents involving children home from school.

At 11:00 AM, crews were dispatched to a trauma call involving a 14-year-old male who hit his head against a tree while sledding on the grounds of the LDS Church at 162nd and Sexton Mountain Road.

The teenager was transported to a local hospital with a serious (non-life threatening) head injury.

In December, 97,677 Oregonians were unemployed, compared with 99,820 in December 2005.

(PORTLAND) - Oregon’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in December was 5.4 percent compared with 5.3 percent in November.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in both November and December.

In December, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment declined by 2,100.

In December, two major industries, trade, transportation, and utilities and professional and business services, each had large seasonally adjusted job losses.
