Vancouver Soldier Jeremiah Johnson Put to Rest With Patriot Guard at Attention

Mourners packed a Hazel Dell, Wash. church Friday to mourn the loss of what many will remember as the boy next door.

(VANCOUVER, Wash. ) - Army Spc. Jeremiah Johnson, a Prairie High School baseball star from Vancouver, Wash., died Friday in Germany 10 days after suffering critical injuries when a Humvee rolled over into a canal in Baghdad. Jeremiah was born August 18th, 1983, and died January 5th, 2007.

"Bless his heart, we were with him to the end," said Johnson's mother, Elizabeth Johnson of Vancouver, in a telephone call from Germany.

The Patriot Guard escorted the procession with the Bag Pipe leading the mass of friends and loved ones to the gravesite.

Police Searching For Suspects Who Rammed OSP Patrol Car

OSP requests that anyone who observes any suspicious persons in Washington County to contact 9-1-1.

(BANKS) - At 3:30 PM Saturday, Oregon State Police Trooper Tim Holbrook, a seven-year veteran of the Oregon State Police, received information from Washington County Dispatch that a stolen vehicle that had been involved in mail thefts had been seen in the Buxton Area west of Banks.

Approximately four miles up a icy gravel road, Trooper Holbrook lost sight of the pickup on a curve.

As the trooper rounded the curve, the pickup was now facing the patrol car about 100 feet away.

OSP Seeking Vehicle, Driver Related to Missing Moscow, Idaho Man

Police have suspended the search for 62-year-old John Dickinson.

(THE DALLES) - The Oregon State Police is requesting the public's assistance in identifying the operator of a vehicle that may have been involved in a series of events related to a missing Moscow, Idaho man.

The vehicle police are attempting to identify would have been traveling westbound on I-84 near the John Day River on 01-07-07 at approximately 5:55 PM.

The vehicle would have been carrying a plastic dog kennel that fell onto the roadway.

Salem House Fires Started With Wood Stove Ashes

(SALEM) - Investigators with Salem Fire say improperly discarded wood stove ashes were the cause of today's fire that damaged two homes in southeast Salem.

Fire Department Spokesman Joe Parrott says the resident of 4775 Pullman Ave SE placed ashes from their wood stove into a plastic yard debris recycling container early this morning.

"The ashes apparently contained enough residual heat and embers to ignite the container. The fire damaged the natural gas meter causing the gas leak."

Parrott says damage to 4775 Pullman Ave SE is estimated at $100,000, while damage to the adjacent home is estimated at $70,000.

Martin Luther King Day was established in 1986 as a United States holiday, only the fourth Federal holiday to honor an individual.

Two Salem-Keizer Charter Schools Accepting Applications For Enrollment

Charter schools are required by law to be open to all students across the district, which means that students from other areas of Salem-Keizer may also apply and get drawn in the lottery.

(SALEM) - The process to apply for admission to Howard Street Charter School is under way.

Applications are being accepted now through March 2nd.

At Forest Ridge, there is both a traditional school and charter school.

Starting on January 16th, parents may submit applications for their child to be in the lottery for the charter school for next year.

Once a child is in the charter they remain in the charter unless they move or withdraw.

Two People Injured in Snowmobile Crash on Mount Hood

State Police are seeking witnesses to the Saturday morning crash.

(MOUNT HOOD) - A rented snowmobile carrying two young Portland men crashed in the Mount Hood wilderness area approximately 1/2 mile southwest of the intersection of US 26 and Skyline Road.

It happened Saturday morning around 8:45 AM.

The operator, 16-year old George Paskar and the passenger, 20-year old Rubin Yahchuk, were both wearing helmets according to investigators. There were no reported witnesses but evidence indicates that the snowmobile missed a corner and ran into a tree.
