Keizer Man Arrested and One Wanted In Attempted Murder

Hernandez allegedly threatened both victims.

(KEIZER) - On Saturday, December 30th at 5:08 AM officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to 4119 River Road North on a report of an armed person who had threatened to kill someone.

When officers arrived, they learned that the armed suspect was still inside the apartment, as were the victims, and they requested the Salem Police Department respond to assist.

(SALEM) - The Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School (JGEMS) in Salem, Oregon has kicked off its third year of global service and cross-cultural communication through One World Youth Project- a global sister-school program connecting 44 schools in 17 countries. This year, the Salem school is paired with the Country Day School of Escazu, Costa Rica.

The Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School is a charter school housed at Waldo Middle School in Salem, Oregon, focusing on environmental science and community service.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - The National Police of Afghanistan have their hands full, working with coalition forces and trying to get a grip on crime in a nation that has almost no laws or legal system. Oregon soldiers are doing regular patrols with the Afghan Police and as Tim King shows us in this next report, the challenges for these low paid law enforcement officers are many.

Fatal Traffic Crash on Oregon Highway 20 East of Santiam

The winter roads claimed a Salem woman Friday afternoon when she lost control of her car on the ice and crashed nearly head-on with a commercial truck.

(SANTIAM JUNCTION) - At about 12:40 PM Friday, 20-year old Kara Marie Copeland from southeast Salem was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 78 negotiating a slight right hand curve on the ice/snow covered road when it lost control.

Police say that the 2001 Toyota Corolla she was driving crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with an eastbound 2001 Volvo truck towing a trailer. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the westbound lane, about three miles east of the Santiam Junction.

Kara Copeland was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints, and the car’s airbags deployed.

Police Say Drunk Driver Going Wrong Way Causes Crash East of Salem

An early Friday morning alcohol-related injury crash east of Salem is an example of what Oregon law enforcement agencies will be trying to prevent through increased enforcement efforts this New Year's holiday weekend.

(SALEM) - Shortly after midnight, the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch received a report of a car traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 22E east from Salem at a high rate of speed, that it had spun out, struck a tree but then continued eastbound.

Officers drove parallel to the car with their overhead lights and sirens activated in an attempt to get the driver's attention to stop, but the driver failed to respond.

Near milepost 10, the car crashed head-on with a westbound Ford Focus.

Oregon Soldier Put To Rest Under A Patch of Blue

Sgt. Brennan Gibson grew up in Oregon and was a 1997 graduate of Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon.

(SHERWOOD) - On December 10th, Brennan and two fellow soldiers assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division, were killed when a roadside bomb detonated near their patrol vehicle in Bagdad, Iraq.

Governor Ted Kulongoski spoke at the Celebration of Life for Brennan. He was much more somber or quiet than usual, partly because this is the first soldier to be killed in the Christmas season and partly because the day of his memorial, December 27th, would have been Brennan's 27th birthday.

Linn County Makes Drug Bust in Albany

Seized in the raid were dealer amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana, scales, packaging material and drug paraphernalia.

(ALBANY) - Thursday, the Linn Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 640 SW 3rd Avenue in Albany.

44-year old Robert Lindsay Tamayo and 42-year old Lisa Ann Anderson were arrested at the scene. Both of them live at the Albany residence.

Both Tamayo and Anderson were charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana. They were lodged in Linn County Jail.

Salem Murder Suspect Arrested in Portland

Police say that 31-year old Johnson is a meth user, and was considered armed and dangerous.

(SALEM) - Police announced Thursday morning that murder suspect Jason Donald Johnson was taken into custody in Portland on Wednesday evening. Portland Police Officers arrested Johnson at the bus depot without incident.

Salem Police had been looking for Jason Donald Johnson as a suspect wanted in the shooting death of 28-year old Jose Estrada in Salem on December 23rd.

Following the arrest in Portland, Salem Police detectives responded and Johnson was transported back to Salem and lodged in Marion County Jail.
