(ALBANY) - The Linn County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the discovery of human remains on October 23rd of this year by a hunter in the Big Spring Snow Park area of east Linn County.

Linn County Detectives have been working with the State Medical Examiner's Office and the State Museum of Anthropology at the University of Oregon in Eugene attempting to determine the identity of the homicide victim in this case.

9500 Still Without Power Since Big Storm in Oregon

One out of every 20 who lost power at the peak of the storm are still offline

(SALEM) - PGE has cut the number of customers without power by more than a third since midday. The total estimate now stands at 8,500 -- compared to 13,000 at noon, down from 40,000 yesterday, and down from 250,000 at the height of the storm.

Pacific Power crews expected to have remaining customers without power restored this afternoon. As of this morning, there were approximately
1,000 customers still without power, mostly in the mid-Willamette Valley and
Clatsop County.

Once clean-up work is done and Pacific Power crews are rested, they will be sent to assist other utilities still experiencing outages.

Armed and Dangerous: Car Jackers Steal Again

(ALBANY) - The two men on the run since their car jacking attempt last week in Albany are at it again. Still armed and considered dangerous, they stole two cars Saturday, and have successfully avoided apprehension at this time.

On Saturday at 4:55 PM, deputies from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 report of an armed disturbance at a residence in Scio.

Victim Identified in Dec 6th Fatal Traffic Crash

Fire personnel responded to the scene to put out what was originally reported as a brush fire, when they discovered the car was on fire.

(ALBANY) - The victim of the December 6th single vehicle fatal traffic accident on I-5 south has been identifired as 24-year old Elena Carmen Flores, from McChord AFB in Washington.

On December 6th at about 9:34 PM, a 2005 Toyota Corolla four-door displaying a Washington license plate was soutbhound on Interstate 5 near milepost 240.

For an unknown reason the car drove off the right shoulder and down a slight embankment, through blackberry bushes and continued about 300 feet before coming to a stop. Initial investigation indicates the car's gasoline tank may have ruptured causing the fire that fully engulfed the car.

One Hiker Found Dead on Oregon`s Mt Hood

The identity of the hiker's body found by searchers has been revealed.

(HOOD RIVER) - The body found Sunday in a snow cave on Mount Hood has been identified as the same climber who placed a distress call to relatives a little more than a week ago.
A military official involved in the search also confirmed the body is that of 48-year old Kelly James, of Dallas, Texas.
Monday morning, a Chinook helicopter was preparing to fly to the snow cave, about 300 feet below Mount Hood’s 11,239-foot summit, to recover the body.

13 Salem School Busses Burned in 2-Alarm Fire (UPDATE)

12/18/2006 10:30 AM Update: Damage estimate is $400,000 and there are a total of 13 buses that received damage.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department received a call for a commercial fire at 998 Hawthorne Ave NE, Salem-Keizer School District Bus Garage at 5:56 AM on Sunday, December 17th.

Captain Robin Chitwood stated, "When we arrived we had multiple busses on fire. We made aggressive attacks on both ends of the line of buses."

A second alarm was dispatched at 6:00 AM bringing more fire apparatus and fire fighters to the scene.

Car Jacking Suspects At Large

Both suspects have ties to Marion County, and both are considered to be armed and dangerous.

(ALBANY) - The Albany Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating two suspects wanted in connection with an armed car jacking that took place at the Mervyn's Department store located at 410 SE Airport Road on Friday, December 15th, and began a police chase that took them into South Salem, where they lost the one suspect on foot.

The first suspect is 20-year old Marco Antonio Villarreal. Marco Antonio Villarreal is described as a Hispanic male, 5'7", 130 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and possibly a goatee.

Storm Update: 68,000 Still Without Power

The tips listed below are important for staying alive and well without power.

(SALEM) - PGE and Pacific Power crews have made significant progress today in restoring storm-related outages along the Oregon coast, the mid-Willamette Valley and in other parts of the state.

At 5:00 PM Saturday, PGE reports 52,000 customers still without power, down from nearly 250,000 at the height of the wind storm at 11:00 PM on Thursday, with 130 crews on the job.

As of 5:30 PM, less than 16,000 Pacific Power customers were still without power, and crews are working around the clock to get power back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Power Still Out for 158,000 in Oregon (UPDATE)

PGE and Pacific Power crews continue to make progress restoring power.

(SALEM) - At 10:30 PM Friday about 105,000 customers are without power throughout PGE's service territory, less than half of the peak of 245,000 at 11:00 last night. Pacific Power crews are continuing to respond to outages affecting more than 53,000 customers in Oregon and Washington.

Restoration efforts are expected to continue through the weekend, and perhaps into early next week.

This was the largest major storm restoration effort since the Dec. 12th, 1995 storm affecting over 300,000.
