Oregon Army National Guard Aviation Unit Re-Designated

The unit, commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Doug Walker, is based in Pendleton.

(PENDLETON) - As part of the Army's Transformation program, the Oregon Army National Guard redesignated one of their aviation units in eastern Oregon on Sunday.

Detachment 2, Lima Company, 151 Aviation Maintenance, was renamed Detachment 3, Bravo Company, 351 Aviation.

Also during the ceremony, representatives of Boeing Aircraft Corporation were presented with employer awards for their support of the Oregon Guard's aviation units.

Salem House Fire Causes Damage But No Injuries

An estimate of damage to the home and contents is $260,000.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department received the call for a structure fire at 2577 Fisher Rd. NE at 1:54 AM on Saturday, December 2nd.

Captain Robin Chitwood, who was on the first fire engine that arrived on scene, stated that an orange glow was showing through the front windows of the 2-story single family dwelling.

Week-long Search for Kim Family Continues in Oregon

(GRANTS PASS) - The search for the James Kim family, missing since Saturday, November 25th is continuing. State, county and city police agencies are working together in an attempt to develop leads and conduct area searches.

Family members 35-year old James Kim, 30-year old Kati Kim, 4-year old Penelope and 7-month old Sabine, failed to return to San Francisco from a trip to the Pacific Northwest. They were in the Portland area on Saturday, with friends, and left enroute to Gold Beach to stay at the Tu Tu Tun Lodge.

(ROSEBURG) - Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are looking for witnesses related to a late Friday night single vehicle traffic crash that critically injured one person on Interstate 5 northbound about three miles south of Roseburg.

On December 1st at about 11:36 PM, a white 1990 Plymouth Laser two door driven by 17-year old Adam J. Poole, from Roseburg, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 121 in the left lane when it lost control, hit an embankment on the outside edge of the freeway and rolled.

Oregon Man Arrested After Attempt to Steal Handgun at Salem Gunshow

(SALEM) - An Oregon State Police trooper arrested a north Portland man Saturday afternoon after he stole a handgun on display at a gunshow held at the State Fairgrounds and attempted to flee. The man, who is currently on post-prison supervision related to robbery and aggravated theft convictions, was chased by several people until he was successfully detained by security and witnesses.

Police: Dead Body Found in Rural East Salem Ruled a Homicide

The body has been identified as 26-year-old Abenamar Velazquez Ramirez.

(SALEM) - Shortly before 9:00 AM Saturday, Marion County Deputies responded to the 6900 block of Dunsmere St. SE, east of Salem, on a report of a deceased male found.

When Deputies arrived what they found was a deceased adult male off the side of the road.

An autopsy was performed Sunday at the Oregon State Police Medical Examiner’s office.

The cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in Oregon Honors 65th Anniversary of the Attack

(SALEM) - This year marks the 65th anniversary of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the military forces of Japan–an action that prompted the United States to declare war on the Japanese and enter World War II.

Jim Willis, the Director of the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs, said the lesson of Pearl Harbor is as important today as it was 65 years ago.

“We must never forget the courage and determination of the American people to ultimately triumph following such a tragedy. On that ‘date which will live in infamy’, all who died or were injured put country before self,” Willis said.

(NASA) - That's the tentative conclusion of Bill Cooke, head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, after his team observed two Leonids hitting the Moon on Nov. 17, 2006.
